Pension credit in a Care home

Options
Dad is in a permanent care home and is self funding. He is running down his savings of about £40,000. His income is £60 state pension, £80 private pension and £81 DLA a week.
We have been told he may get pension credit but the amount of paperwork and stress it is causing us trying to sort it is a nightmare. Is it worth carrying on because won't it be a small amount anyway if he gets it?

He will get his current £60 + £80 topped up to £151.20.

Mum still lives at home. Half dads private pension is disregarded for care home fees.

Does someone in a care home claim PC as a single person or as part of a couple?

Does your mother claim any benefits?

Mum doesn't have any benefits at home. I think they are treated separately for PC

Pension Credit seems like a lot of form-filling but it's definitely worthwhile. You just need to get someone in the family sitting down with the paperwork for an evening and get it done.

You missed out the Extra Amount for Severe Disability Premium worth up to £61.xx per week to be added to £151.20 less £1 for every £500 or part of, savings over £10k (£15 in this case).

This is on top of Attendance Allowance which id disregarded in full for Pension Credit except for possible premiums as above.

So what about the 50 percent disregard on his personal pension of £80 does it mean he is only classed as receiving £40?

My Mum & Dad had a joint Pension Credit claim.
When he went into a care home we had to do 2 separate claims.

Yes, and with the added premium mentioned above, it's certainly worth claiming.

I see your Father is getting DLA. This is treated in the same way as Attendance Allowance.
