As the software upgrade that the link mentions took place over 4 years ago, I doubt if this will have suddenly started affecting the OP's television after all this time.

Done a bit of web searching and random off/on seems to be a common LG TV problem across many models.

Some of the fixes (in no particular order) include -

    1 Factory reset
2 Change Power Board then do Factory reset
3 Press and hold the ON button (the one on the TV) for 30 seconds and then release it.
4 Turn the wifi off (if fitted)
5 Take the back off the set and check all the circuit board screws are tight.
6 Do 5 + Wiggle/remove+reconnect the connectors to fix any bad connections

    Thanks for all your replies.

Jim, I'd searched the net too and found egs of LGs switching on/off. These seemed to relate to it happening on all channels not just BBC.

Pendragon and Norman - Don't think this is and issue - no doorbell and nearest neighbour some distance away (living in the stix!).

My other small TV in the next room dosn't have a problem so I'll try swapping that out with my LG, though I think it it's likely the LG set has the problem.

As a last resort I may reluctantly try Jim's suggestion and shake it about a bit!!!
  • It might sound like a silly question but does it switch off during any particular type of program?

Many years ago I had a Hitachi TV that started turning off during action programs, especially ones where there were lots of loud explosions.
This was eventually traced to a faulty solder joint on one of the circuit boards (in the days when these boards weren't simply replaced), and the speakers were causing a vibration that lead to the bad connection making the set switch off.

Whilst that may be the case, it's possibly the only viable link to the TV playing up on BBC channels only.
