weird TV problem

Options
I have a LG 42LF7700 and it has been fine for the past 5 years.

Recently it has been randomly switching itself off and back on again a few seconds later.

This only happens on BBC channels.

I have disconnected it from my recorder and used it directly on the aerial to see if it was the recorder that was causing it. The TV still did its on/off using just the aerial.

Even starnger? When recording BBC and an on/off occurs, it does not show the on?off on the recorded program!

Any ideas please before I end up forking out for a new TV.

Many thanks.

Maybe try the new installation process.

Also worth checking for software updates.

It's probably something to do with automatically detecting and changing screen resolution.

Go into the settings and stop it auto-detecting the screen aspect ratio/resolution.... Set it to 16:9 and see if it stops.

    Why would it?

The programme is being recorded direct from the aerial.
It doesn't matter whether the TV is turned on or off.

Yes, it seems obvious now come to think of it!

Cant think why just on BBC channels ?

The standby power supply can be the first to fail as it get the most hours.
My guess would be a capacitor on that bit of the power supply. Cos that smooths the power to the IR receiver. If its failing the IR receiver could get noise and could start randomly doing all sorts.

Or maybe a room light is putting out IR. So try blocking the IR receiver with a bit of tape to see if the problem stops.

LGs did have a problem with the power switch a few years ago that had similar symptoms - if you ignore the BBC thing (could be coincidental)
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • Maybe neighbour's remote is affecting your tv, door bell or radio signals from outside.

Try putting the remote control in another room or removing the batteries. I had a tv that the volume would increase to maximum caused by a faulty remote .
