Seller has pulled out

So, after nearly 3 months of waiting for a chain to complete the seller of the house we wanted has pulled out.
Luckily we didn't spend any money on searches or surveys but I'm really cross that we have wasted all that time and are now back to square one with a dead market
We weren't really given a reason but I'm guess ing that they've taken it off the market while the people they are buying from find a property (this is what held the chain up) and then they will put it back on the market at a higher price.
Don't suppose I can sue them for being time-wasting a***holes can I?

Sorry to hear this. Sadly no compensation.0 -

Wouldn't it be great if there was something you could do?
I am dreading our vendor doing the same. It is looking less likely and hopefully we are getting closer to exchange, but until that day, I can't relax. I really hope you find something else. I know you said the market is dead, but hopefully this is the right time for new houses to come on the market.Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

In such situations, I think that it is useful to keep looking for alternative properties.0 -
No contract yet exists, so no comeback. And that remains the position until you actually exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Surely the OP has contributed to the collapse of the chain by not having surveys and searches done so was therefore not in a position to proceed with the proposed purchase?0

I was wondering that, I'm only 4 weeks in and have had to pay for the survey otherwise our seller would have probably looked elsewhere.0 -
Sorry to hear that Dollyrockerz- I am dreading something like that happening with my chain although my vendor was only too glad to agree a sale so hopefully it be ok. There is a house out there waiting for you, better than the one you have now missed out on and which you will love even more!0

Well it could come back to bite them as their vendors may not be pleased that they are no longer proceedable (when their vendors do find a place they don't want to be waiting around for them to get a new buyer).0

Exactly - OP - perhaps you should have shown a bit more interest in the place and started searches etc - this might have made the vendors think twice about pulling the sale - they're probably thinking you're the time wasting a***hole for not doing anything in the 3 months since they accepted your offer!0 -

Uh, hardly, jump to conclusions much????
The chain never completed, the people our seller was buying from couldn't find a property despite offering on 4 that we know about, there's no way I'm going to spend hundreds of pounds on searches when the chain is incomplete and there's a good chance it will all fall through which is what eventually happened. Their estate agent was the one who advised not to do the searches etc because of the chain and we were the ones chasing them twice a week to get things moving.
We did nothing to hold it up at all, in fact, we moved in with my Husbands parents when our flat sale went through so that we were in optimal position to bu7y having no chain and a mortgage agreed..
It appears that you are the only !!!!!! here0
