The Xbox360 vs PS3 war. Hidden costs for Xbox??

I've seen all the arguements between Xbox360 and PS3, what makes me laugh is that no-one has done a direct comparison by cost.
I think everyone would be interested in the fact that a same spec 360 costs at least £100 more than the PS3.
Break it down like this:
Cost of PS3 starter pack (2 games & 2 controllers) - £425
Cost of Xbox360:
- Elite pack £329.99
- Additional controller £32.99
- HD DVD drive £109.99
- Wireless adapter £54.99
- 2 games £60 approx.
TOTAL - £587.69
I make that at least £160 more expensive in comparison. The only differences, 60GB more hard drive space on the Xbox but the PS3 has bluetooth and card reader.
You can apply the same logic to the 360 Premium console too, package bundle with two games costs £280, but then you pay an extra £60-£120 for the hard drive (20GB & 120GB respectively).
Now tell me the PS3 is over-priced :rotfl:

Whats cost got to do with it, I thought consoles were all about the games, I buy Xbox & Nintendo, simply because of the Games that are not cross platform.0

dont forget you have to pay for xbox live as well.
i dont think the fact is that no one has done a cost comparison but more the clever marketing by microsoft to make you think theirs is cheaper.
you carnt compare the premium console because it carnt output true hd.
apart from that if i had 400 quid then i would get the ps3 but i think they are both expensive and until gran turismo comes out i wont be buying.0 -
My premium console outputs true HD, using the component cables... i think 1080p is pretty HD. Xbox live is not an essential, but it is worth it when it adds such longevity to games. The sony online gaming service has always been free, but the drawback is that they have never been able to draw many customers to use it.
You cannot compare the cost of these two together though in this way, the ps3 may be much more powerful and displays games beautifully, however they are just not quite as fun or varied as the 360 games are. All you really need is the premium xbox, the extra hard drive space is uneeded. I have only used up 5Gb on the Xbox, however on my pc i have filled about 200Gb. The elite is not really worth the extra money.
I would just buy the 360 premium package, the games you want, and maybe an extra controller.
(i got an extra wireless controller for a tenner alongside my premium box)0 -
Not that surprising if you're doing a component comparison since as far as I know Microsoft are making a profit on every XBox 360, whereas Sony are making a loss on every PS3."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

The way i look at it is that i can get a second hand xbox 360 for 100 quid for my sons birthday..i'm not gonna get a ps3 for that price! Anyway he already has a ps2 so may as well get something different. He doesn't need all the extras. He's been playing both In PCW and tbh, maybe it's the games but the xbox graphics actually look better.Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

- Wireless adapter £54.99
What about peopel who don't need an HD DVD Drive and don't need a wireless adapter?
You're still saying the PS3 is better? *sigh*
you can't do a comparison like that.[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"The internet is a great way to get on the net."

Exactly, with games consoles the priority is the games unless you're a hardware/gadget geek (I admit I'm one). So it isn't value for money on the hardware that should be looked at but value for money for the games (quality, playability, availability). And they're not synonymous. Look how well the Wii is doing and I'm willing to bet it's quite poor value for money strictly looking at the hardware components but that's not the big picture."She is quite the oddball. as above,i only have crt and run a wired network(shock i know) so have no need for HD of any kind.
so your a ps3 fanboy trying to sway favour towards the ps3? fair enough but im into halo 3 over GT so easy choice for me0 -

Sounds like a bit of a Fanboy post.
The advantage of the 360 is that you don't have to have everything.
- For example, you may prefer to use cable instead of wireless for gaming online. That's £54 saved.
- And you don't have to have the Elite pack. You could get the Premium on offer if you look around for about £220 (is the cheapest I've seen).
- Not everyone will want HD-DVD, or at least not yet. The technology isn't ready, and a lot of people still need a 1080p capable tv.
So you could get:
Xbox 360 Premium - £220
Extra controller - £25
Two games (Forza 2 and Colin McCrae) - £50
= £295.
Quite a bit cheaper than the PS3 by my reckoning. And you can buy games a lot cheaper. I've seen them about for as cheap as £10 (reasonable ones too), and new ones (like Forza 2) for £25.
As mentioned it's also about the games, and the 360 still has the better selection."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
