The Xbox360 vs PS3 war. Hidden costs for Xbox??

So it isn't value for money on the hardware that should be looked at but value for money for the games (quality, playability, availability). And they're not synonymous. Look how well the Wii is doing and I'm willing to bet it's quite poor value for money strictly looking at the hardware components but that's not the big picture.
Yes, if i had £400 to spend of course I would weigh it up like that, but I haven't, so the £100 xbox with 2nd hand games from CEX for a tenner or less will suit my son fine :PFr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0 -
Also dont forget that the 2 games are being bundled with the PS3 pretty much everywhere as a way to make the console seem cheap and good value.
It has already been pointed out that you can do pretty much all the things you mention with the xbox 360 premium pack you don't need the new elite.
Ohh and I have had all the sony consoles so far up untill the PS3 I just can't warrent spending so much money on a console that so far has not had anything released that shows any sort of improvement over the 18 month (ish) old xbox 360 I didn't own an old xbox and only have a 360 becasue tesco gave it to me
but it is very good.
The main problem with the 360 is reliability, they are shocking but at least microsoft have increased everyones warrenties to 3 years. only time will tell on the reliabilty of the PS3 will they have laser problems like other sony consoles?0 -
Not sure the figures in the OP really add up like that for me.
I shopped around (admittedly quite a lot...) and got:
360 premium
Extra (wireless) controller
PGR3
Live Arcade Unplugged
Table Tennis
Pro Evo 7
Gears of War
Couple of batteries
Plug n play (or whatever they're called) charger
And a DVD (collateral iirc)
- for £303.
Now that, for me, does me fine.
The component out is fine for me (who wants their sound to go to the TV anyway? Laaaame...).
I have *no interest* in wireless..who needs the packet loss/untold cancers
I don't use 3gb of space, let alone 20...
I'm waiting on HD-DVD until I see which format prospers...
Now, can someone please point out *why* I'm going to splash out an extra £100 on a console with less games (both supplied and available), worse interface (xbox live is the bomb!) and no rumble?
That would be madness! Madness I tells ye!

In my opinion you'll be waiting a very long time. I think it would be like waiting to see which format won out of DVD+ and DVD-. I think more manufacturers are going to adopt the idea of the hybrid players on top of the hybrid discs that are coming out (so doesn't matter which player you have)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Somebody still uses DVD+R? Eeewy

I agree, actually...
And it's another good reason not to want a HD-DVD player right now

Yep, certainly no reason to rush at the moment. Still very early days and the market for the blu-ray/hd-dvd and high definition technologies is currently still quite unstable."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I thought that I'd put an honest perspective online, so that people who may not have looked into the full specs of machines, but wanted to have HD and wireless gaming, etc would at least see the potential costs they might incur over time. The Xbox 360 is boasted as being wirless and HD capable, I was merely pointing out the costs to achieve.
So to get comments that I'm being a fanboy is slightly disappointing and pretty childish to be honest.
My opinion is that I'd love to have both machines, got both PS2 and Xbox. I've played 360 and loved it, seen the PS3 and love it. However, finances dictate that's not going to happen. I will buy one of them though.
This was my first post on this site and if this is the type of response's I can expect, then I'm pretty much persuaded to not bother in future.
Sorry Martin, love your emails and the tips, but steering clear of the forums.0 -

You're still saying the PS3 is better? *sigh*
you can't do a comparison like that.
I stated "direct comparison" in specs, so for me that includes wireless and HD.0 -
Exactly. Plus you get a 3 year guarantee on general hardware faults with the 360.
PS3 would be covered under sale of goods act so unless the xbox 360 deal includes home visits for repairs or new for old no matter the age, the 3 year guarantee is acutally sneaky advertising - the SOGA covers items like this regardless of the guarantee.

Not everyone did so. In fact I don't think I've explicitly disagreed with anything you've said. I've only put in my own opinions and my own clarifications."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
