Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Everyone
OllieGami - thanks for starting the thread off. What about other things apart from online, like bar work, or weekend cafe shifts etc, appreciate you may already be worn out though. Is there an opportunity to do baby sitting for other families in your social circle, a lot of the nannies I know do that to top up their incomes.
Ziggy - I agree, the times I've waded on with a book because I feel I should.....
Ally - Admiring your vital statistics over there, amazing how much slaying you've managed this month!
Polly - I read your comment last night about the wanting a big family thing, and the reasons sounded lovely. Sorry to hear you lost a sibling though that must have been terrible.
Dawn - Sorry to hear you are shivering away, its very mild still in London.
Shortie - Meant to say that its lovely of you to try and help your Dad with his budget, I think you may well find a way together of shortening his wait to retire. Positive thinking and all that. Sorry about the animal pee incident though, thats grim.
JoJo & Twiggy - You both sound very productive, well done ladies!
Hannah - The date cake sounds delicious, & yet thrifty, best combo for taste :)

Well me today. Managed to shift another £100 over to my account from the business. Takings have been very poor so far this week, & I can only think the combination of end of the month syndrome, and the slightly odd weather are to blame.
I was a bit dismayed to discover having called my insurer this morning, a) I may be stuck with them for the duration due to the claim being classed as ongoing (my renewal date is imminent) & that they will not give me insurance to help expand my business into space hire, which is very annoying. According to them allowing someone into my business when I am not there, and charging them for the time is subletting.
I called around of course, and managed to go through a whole quote with another broker, but they said due to the fact I have a claim in the last 6 months & the fact its ongoing regarding payment of business interruption, they cant underwrite me. They've given me one more broker to try.
I feel a bit put off right now. The hire out would give me the flexibility I need to try & get a bit more work life balance, so if I have to be there for it to work, that renders that element null & void. Plus if I am there, I have to pay for after school care for my son, & that renders the hire out uneconomical.
Im seeing the person who wants to do the hire tommorow, so hopefully we can put our heads together. There is no point fudging it in my opinion, if a child broke their leg & I wasnt there, it doesnt bear thinking about from a getting sued POV.
I also think Im feeling a bit sensetive squirrel generally. Peoples probably innocent comments have been getting on my nerves more than usual, & feeling a bit flat. I think this is because I feel really fed up that this is supposed to be my time to pay myself, and of course the business has dropped away from under me just at the wrong time. With the accountant to try and sort out on top of the usual things I am trying to accrue for between 1st and 15th of the month, if this week is rubbish its muggins who goes without (again) gets to me sometimes. No sign of the insurance settlement money, but I dont really want to use that as money to live on anyway, if the business cant support me, & itself, maybe thats telling me something...

Anyway, sorry for the slightly grumpy message today. I also have to go back out tonight for a PTA meeting, which I frankly hate. I live the furthest away, so I have to wait for husband to get in, then take 2 buses or cycle. Then sit in the meeting 2 hours & come home. Bah.

    Yours stroppily
    Bob

  • Hi everyone!!
Just had a read and this seems like a really good thread!!
I'm trying to clear my debt and also save money :)
    Today I have:
    - Taken a snack into work to eat on my break instead of buying one
    - And I forgot to take a book into work to read while on break and I walked past all the books and mags (I work in a supermarket) and didn't buy any!!
Not much I know but I've probably saved myself a few pennies there already!!
    Read my diaryHere :)

Oh my goodness Hannah1, you are so organised!

Been looking at new beds today so will have a chat with Mr Shortie and see if we can decide

    So today..

    - I have maintained an NSD helped by leaving my purse at home again (on purpose)
    - Had all my food from home only and tea I made myself (can't think of I'm in milk duty next week or the week after)
    - Managed to cancel contact lens payment plan for DS1 who isn't wearing his lenses after bugging me for ages that he wanted them <sigh> have cancelled the DD online
    - I have a yummy lasagne waiting at home for dinner **dribbles**. Mr Shortie made extra for the weekend away (made in advance and froze it) but one of the families fancies taking the weekend as it goes and isn't eating with us, so we have excess lasagne made up which has become a very easy, very tasty dinner for tonight :-)
    - Hoping there will be leftover dinner to box up for lunch tomorrow

Thanks Shortie. The short version is I had to close for 6 months due to flooding. The insurer made it all much worse than it should have been, & tried to not pay out, which I complained to the Ombudsman about & won after a very long time, last week. Thanks for the good wishes for it being sorted soon. The business itself is reopened, but takings are just no where near what they were before all this started. Have a good night.

    Evening frugalistas,
Have had lovely birthday outing to South Yorkshire today. Have still managed a few little bits of money saving:
*Took a picnic & flask of coffee with us, though did treat ourselves to birthday cream tea later on :-)
*Did not get tempted by gift shops.
*Called into Waitrose for milk & an avocado just as the reduced items were being reduced again. Got a fab haul. Packs of chicken thighs 99p each, baps 19p a pack, frying steak 35p, beef strips 89p & shell on king prawns with dip for the birthday girl....should have been £6.00, but were £1.49. Also availed ourselves of free coffees & free Guardian.
    *Just opened Aldi cava.
    Love to all,
    F x
