Hello,
This has been a long and drawn out saga and I'm looking for some advice as to the best place to go next.
For the past three months my brother's tablet has been with a repair shop with a good reputation. They fixed it once and then damaged something else so it was sent back to them. As it was under warranty they said they'd repair it. Then they went quiet. We rang weekly and they said they were waiting for parts. Finally, three weeks ago, they said the tablet was too badly damaged so they'd replace it.
Nothing.
My brother chased and pointed out the tablet also had a case on it and could he get a replacement case. He'd been in touch with the police just to check about data on the tablet and they advised he should ask for the original tablet back.
Once he asked for the original tablet back it all went very quiet again.
Today a package arrived with a tatty old hard drive box with a tablet inside it. It was obviously not new. The man in the repair shop said he'd figured it was too expensive to buy a new one so he took a look at the original tablet again and fixed it.
My brother rang Asus who said they have no record of the ID number - the serial number is behind the back of the unit and he doesn't want to take the back off in case it's a) not his tablet or b) they say that invalidates anything.
Basically, what do we do now? We don't know if this is his tablet. It works but they say they did a factory reset so none of his data is on it.
Flummoxed! Help and advice gratefully received.

Warranty what warranty ??
Essence is that he does not know if its his tablet yes .0 -
The first step would be to list your grievances with the shop owner (sending by registered letter) and outline what restitution you expect, give them 14 days to reply. I'd also suggest to have a word with The Citizens Advice Bureau and Trading Standards.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

If it's an Android tablet you can find the serial number under the Settings >>>> About Tablet menu0
