TV Delay compared to neighbour

I have a bit of an odd issue and not sure if there is anything I can do about it!
We live in a terraced house with thin party walls and have a new neighbour.
We were both watching the same football match on TV and as the walls are thin I could hear everytime they got excited.
Now they are not being overly loud as I say the walls are thin.
The issue is their TV is 5-10 seconds ahead of ours so I knew when there was a goal before the ball hit the net! It somewhat ruined the game for me!
Is there anything I can do?
5-10 seconds is a very long time, it is not a delay due to free view encoding decoding, it is too long, that is a fraction of a second.
If I was paying for that I would speaking to the crooks.0 -
I had BBC2 on in the kitchen (freeview) and the lounge (Sky) at the weekend as I was doing some kitchen installation work while the snooker was on. John Virgo was about 1/2 second ahead on freeview, but they were close enough together to be like an echo.
It gets more interesting when watching test match cricket on Sky and listening to the commentary on Radio 4 long wave. Radio 4 is three or more seconds ahead of the TV feed.
Part of this has to do with the speed of light, some is latency due to the encoding and decoding of the signalProud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
Anybody remember decades ago, dunno how often it happened, but BBC2 showed some classic performance, and simultaneously broadcast it on Radio4. Before the days of stereo TV, so the idea was you got much better sound with your picture. Unnecessary today, and also, I guess, impossible to do...0

It could also be due to HD, HD is usually behind SD, usually because HD takes a little longer to encode/decode than SD.
It could also be the equipment you are using. Devices that allow you to pause live tv will be slightly behind as well. As these basically record the channel and you watch the recorded version, which adds a small delay0 -
I found a solution I watched the 5-5 thriller between Swindon and Sheffield while he cried into his Arsenal mug ;-)0
