I'm in a very similar situation to you :)

You see there is a blender/soup maker called a vitamix - they are designed to chop the veg as well as make the soup - they are not popular here but are very popular in the USA and they have very good reviews there.

Only problem is they are very expensive £600 - so I went for the best regular soup maker I could find - the cuisinart..... The cuisinart has a stir button on it too so you don't have to put spoons etc in to stir it.

Only problem with the cuisinart is that the jug is all glass - so is heavy......

    Vitamix here - http://www.lakeland.co.uk/18160/Vitamix®-500

If you do a forum search on here I think there are a few threads about soup makers - lots of old stylers think they are a waste of money - but they won't have health conditions.....

My 3 growing up kids have, or are leaving home in the next year and we all know that I am not as driven to look after myself as I have done them for the last couple of decades. I was a chef and I've been following the anti-arthritis diet for over a decade. Planned menu's, cooked from scratch. wholegrain-resistant children! The trouble is, I can't make myself eat cheap processed food - I would rather go without, and I rapidly go past the point of being hungry - and crash!

My son has been dropping hints about taking the blender with him for his smoothie-habit so I guess a soup maker/blender would be justifiable. :D

Stressco's do a small range of organic pulses ready-to-go in box cartons for about 60p - great, easy addition to soup:)

I'm stuck and don't go out very much so can't get to supermarkets. I live on the 3rd floor and have previously had Stressco's and Sainsbugs home delivery dump my shopping on the ground floor and refuse to bring it up to my flat - health and safety apparently!! :(

So now I use Ocado and they are brilliant - will even put everything on my kitchen counters so I don't have to bend down etc. It does cost more though and I am limited to what they supply :)

Remember that a soup maker is still only soup. You will still need a proper meal during the day too - hence the lakeland microwave bags....

I just put the empty jug on my kitchen scales and it is 2290g - so almost 5lbs before it is filled with hot soup - but even when it is full of soup it is never more that 2/3s full - it makes 1400mls of soup at a time by the way - the jug is big enough to fit a soup ladle in it too though....

I know what you mean about not being able to bring yourself to eating processed food. I used to love to cook years ago when I was still able to.....

Which brand would you recommend? :)

I have a Waring which is exactly the same as a Cuisinart; just different brand name.

It would have cost me over £100, last year, fromTesco, but was free using double up points .However, Amazon have a Cuisinart, at the moment, sold as used, for £52.

Some Amazon 'used' items are actually unused (you can tell used as they mention blemishes), but my Tefal Mince & Shred just had a damaged box and had never been opened. A plastic part, unknown to them, was broken , so they paid P&P and cost for a spare.
