Been to the U.S. More times than I can recall. In recent years (over 5) I have never been asked for the paper counterpart. They are happy with photocard part only but always like to see passport too.0

Never had that problem, neither of us have a photocard and we alwas put both of us on the agreement, last time was last month0 -
I've never heard of a hire car agency rejecting a paper licence when that's all the person has, how odd.
I once used just the counterpart - forgot my photo card in my hotel room, realised this when I was in the queue at the car hire desk and just quietly handed over the counterpart and my passport and hoped...I wouldn't suggest doing this on purpose, but they didn't bat an eye. I could have schlepped back to my hotel and back to the car hire agency if I had to.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0
