Anyone bought a car from the USA?

Thanks nullogik.I'm specifically looking for something from the muscle car era of about 1964-1971/2.Common sense would point to a Mustang as they made millions of them and the aftermarket parts arena is exstensive.64/65 Falcons are slightly rarer but the Mustangs were based on these and so mechanical parts are interchangable.
I haven't checked Mustang prices in the UK for a while but I seem to remember that Practical Classic suggested a couple of years back that you'd be better off buying one in the UK as prices have risen considerably in the US and they now would work out cheaper in the UK.
I'm still hankering after a Mercury Cougar - both rarer and cheaper than the Mustang, and it's got the same running gear.
That said, prices for muscle cars are still on the up over there, with the really daft/sought after ones commanding up to six figures and more now. Mostly Roadrunners/GTXs, GTOs in concourse condition, granted, but they've had a knock-on effect on the values of similar cars.0 -
Yeah,Cougars are nice.As are the earlier Comets.:cool2:In an Acapulco hotel:

Well I've finally committed.I've found a nice Falcon in North Carolina and paid a deposit. However,I forwarded the monies to my shipper anticipating that the seller would accept a bank transfer but he is reluctant to reveal his bank details so we going with a Paypal payment and I'm prepared to take the 3% fees. But I'm now unsure how to pass on the details of the sellers Paypal account to my shipper so that the final balance can be paid. It's probably something easy but could someone enlighten me please?:oIn an Acapulco hotel:

In theory all the shipper will need is the seller's paypal email address.
I take it you're happy the seller is above board? Why are you paying he paypal fees, out of interest? My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
would it not be possible to forward the funds to the company collecting the car?
save yourself 3%(if they do bacs) plus cash is handed over on collection of the car0 -

Well thats the conclusion I came to and I did forward that to my shipper.I'm happy to pay the sellers fees as I'm happy with the deal I got and I did'nt want to lose it.The seller has 100% feedback with 80+ transactions so I felt pretty safe.In an Acapulco hotel:

I'm not sure how that would work with the shipper and their agent in the US.In an Acapulco hotel:

You'd think your seller would be happier with a bank transfer than a paypal payment for a car from someone in another country.
Still good luck with it all and keep us posted.
Have you got a customs clearance agent in place?0 -
Just to add a note of caution, you are 100% sure that the car exists and is owned by the person selling it aren't you? I realise this is a classic car and possibly not an item commonly scammed but i was just mindful of the advance payment for car scam.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I think that may well be the reason for involving the shipper - they can (obviously) check that the car exists before paying out the rest of the money.
@Leighthal - I assume that you checked with the seller that he has the docs for the car (namely the pink slip - our equivalent of the V5)? Without that you won't be able to register the car over here...0
