Actually, she was sharing it to try and encourage another single mum to do the same so she'd have more money.

It's things like this, and there really are a lot of them, that are making the rules stricter

No, imo It's the Tories trying to crush the working classes. :)

They would have brought this in however people would have acted.

Umm,no. I'm self employed myself and actually work, have some self respect and I wouldn't want to be her for the world! I don't agree with people playing the system to bum off the state however.

OK - now I'm a little confused

Could someone clarify what the rules are now for the SE who are currently claiming WTC - and those who will be new claimants post April 6?

    Thank you pmlindyloo

Reading from that I take it the new test will be even stricter than the previous blanket 24 x NMW proposal for some - i.e. single people required to work 30+ hours to claim WTC will be expected to be earning 30 x NMW. I feel there will be a very high number failing that particular test. I wonder in what order they will 'gradually check existing claims'?

I haven't read anywhere if holidays are taken into account with these tests - are the SE actually allowed a holiday?!

Good point. Will be interesting to have this query confirmed by those in the know. My uninformed guess is that there is no such thing as a deduction in the Minimum Income Floor for the SE that takes into account time off for sickness and holidays but I'm open to a challenge on this.

Only regular PAYE employees get 'paid' holidays and sickness because they are on a fixed salary and are given a fixed period of paid time. The self employed, if they don't work, they don't earn. That's the case for the SE who don't get any state benefits so I don't understand why the public purse would offer this concession for those reliant on benefits.

However, not familiar with the actual rules so happy to be corrected.

I imagine that's why it was set at 24 hours per week rather than 30 or 35?

Although unemployed JSA claimants are allowed holidays (in the UK), as well as two periods of up to 7 days sickness per year, so this rule for the self-employed on WTC may need to be challenged or further guidance provided in the coming months.
Please be polite to OPs and remember this is a site for Claimants and Appellants to seek redress against their bank, ex-boss or retailer. If they wanted morality or the view of the IoD or Bank they'd ask them.
