carpet shrunk 2 years after fitting

Hi, can anyone tell me whether i have any rights, i ordered a carpet to be fitted from css two years ago. Over the past few weeks i have noticed it has shrunk away from the wall and there is a gap and the carpet lifts up when you walk on it - luckily its at the far wall least walked near but still, it should be held down with grippers but due to shrinkage it no longer is.

I phoned css and they gave me a number to ring the carpet fitter up, i did so and he said there is a £35 charge for him to come out and look.

Im just wondering if this is right and its a case of paying and hoping he will say they need to rectify it?

Whats the best outcome i could hope for?

The best outcome you could hope for is that the fitter comes out to re-stretch the carpet for nothing.

But it does look like that is going to cost you at least £35, doesn't it?

can they actually stretch a carpet lol or are you having a laugh?........ the carpet was just under £400.

Are you sure it has shrunk, or has it stretched so that it has pulled away from the grip strip? In my experience carpets often stretch over time and need retensioning. Shrinking could well have happened if you regularly shampoo the carpet, especially if it is pure wool.

Yes they can, unless it is a cheap nylon one with rubberised backing.

i tried pulling it back onto the grippers but it wont meet to it so mustve shrunk. Ive only shampooed the carpet once since getting it as we dont really use that room much compared to other rooms. The gap isnt even straight either, its been cut wonky...... will read that link wealdroam thanks...

Dont really fancy paying £35 to be told there is nothing they can do and i have no rights anymore so if the link shows me how to stretch it id sooner do that... thanks

Yes that link will show you how to do it.
It will also show you that paying someone £35 to do it might be money well spent.

To tension it you would need one of the tools they use, certainly not something you have in your average toolbox and not likely to be available from your local DIY shed.

lol looking at the link i think im better off getting someone who knows what theyre doing doing it, but its annoying me, idve thought this wouldntve happened within 2 years if itd been fitted right?
