The MSE Energy has just recommended the above to me followed by Sainsbury's Energy. I won't go for Sainsbury's as they are under BG and there is poor feedback. I am reluctant to try the above as they are new and small and I can't see enough feedback. Any comments please? I am going to try Uswitch as a comparison.

    Hi katejo,

I have just applied to GB Energy. No feedback available that I could find, so hoping it goes OK!

They responded within minutes of my application with an email containing Welcome Pack, Direct Debit details and account number. Switch date quoted as 1 month after date of application.

Be aware that their tarrif is variable, not fixed, so could be hoisted up above current cheap rates when they have attracted enough new customers (or am I just being cynical?!!!!)

Also they take Direct debits in advance, in fact my first DD date is quoted as being 1 week before the actual switch date.

Just had a look at GBEnergy site and they don't list SaisnburysEnergy Discount Fix 2016 as a tarrif, so can't check! I could take a punt on one of the others but that's not the point is it!?
4kWp, SSE, SolarEdge P300 optimisers & SE3500 Inverter, in occasionally sunny Corby, Northants.
Now with added Sunsynk 5kw hybrid ecco inverter & 15kWh Fogstar batteries. Oh Octopus Energy too.

Why would GBEnergy list a Sainsbury's energy discount? Are they connected in some way? I only referred to Sainsbury's as another suggested cheaper option based on my consumption figures.
I might end up going for EDF which is also a bit cheaper than my current one. I have never used them but they are more established.

Is the Siansbury's tarrif your existing one? If you want to compare it with GB Energy and the GB Energy site doesn't list that as one of the options for a tarrif to switch from, why not look at the Cheap Energy Club comparison (or any comparison site)?

Ive been looking to change today, dont want to risk GB energy, and sainsburys is the next cheapest.
We are high users and their two cheapest deals are
    G£778 E£1348 and G£633, E£1777,
obviously you have to wonder why they cant offer G£633 and E£1348?
This would give me a monthly charge of £165 as opposed to their "cheapest" combination of £177 per month.

on a comical note, it says on my current suppliers invoice "you may be able to save money by changing supplier"
Imagine if all businesses did that!

    Switcher experience:

I got through to OVO twice today in peak time and spoke to a real person (who knew what they were doing) in less than a minute and without going through a ridiculously long filter system. (:T:j:T) Told them I was considering switching and they were very helpful.

Rates not too bad but standing charges bit hefty in comparison to some, so...

I decided to take a flyer and switch to GB Energy as I cant ignore a £200 saving just because I like OVO who have been hassle free throughout. (GBEnergy are also based in the north west and we need the jobs up there.)

Online application quick and easy. received welcome pack very quickly online, followed instructions to check it to avoid any problems later on, then spotted my gas meter wasn't mentioned. Phoned as required to check if an error.......

Queued for 13 minutes to get through to GB to advise the E welcome pack had arrived but it only shows elec meter details and not my gas (dual fuel switcher). Lady agreed it is an error and will resend it immediately. Not arrived yet ( only been 25 mins).

Nervous slightly after loosing 2 years of my life fighting with one of the big 6 to correct their errors!!

We have 14 days cooling off period anyway so watch this space.

Hope this isn't a trend....... I too got the welcome pack by email very quickly, followed by a welcome letter in the post and follow-up emails telling me that the switch is going well. Then got an email today asking for opening meter reading to be given online using the login details previously sent to me by email. As no such details had been sent, I have just tried to give the opening meter read by phone, but gave up after holding for 15 minutes. Not impressed. I have now emailed them asking them to supply login data so I can deal with it online rather than waste my life holding on to a phone line.

    Don't touch GB Energy.

I signed up to GB Energy two weeks ago, and immediately received an email with all the documentation. There were a few mistakes in the docs (e.g. asking me to confirm the meter numbers in the document, but not actually showing them anywhere, and stating that the monthly price was based on it being winter when it's mid-May), so I sent an email to query this. No reply. So then I sent another email. Again, no reply. Then a third email. No reply. I then phoned up (still within the 14 day cooling off period) to cancel my application. After fifteen minutes on hold, I spoke to a man who cancelled my application. A week later, I receive an email, asking me to contact them because they're having problems setting up my account.

Although GB Energy claim they save money by not using advertising, I suspect they're also saving money by ignoring customer support. So I would suggest you avoid GB Energy.

They are a very new start-up - I think around October 2014. I suspect they seriously under-estimated demand for their offer and so don't have adequate backroom resources to cope with it. I am prepared to give them a few months to see if their management is capable of getting things together. If not, they will probably go the same way as Extra Energy appear to have gone (read the many threads about that company for a real nightmare scenario!) There is no exit fee so if things don't improve it is easy to walk away, but I am willing to endure a certain level of pain in return for what is, for me, the cheapest electricity by far.
