O/S Daily Friday 24th April 2015

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, dull and overcast. Load of washing ready in machine, will put it out on the line once it’s done.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. Will wake DS2 shortly, so he can get ready for school.

Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, mash, carrots, cauli and green beans. Tonight we were going to have chicken korma, but DH has requested that we have that tomorrow night not tonight, so have swapped those meals over and tonight we’ll have the HM chicken, bacon and mushroom pie with mash and peas. I’m think I’ll prep all the chicken in one go when I make the pie filling this afternoon so that’s one less job for tomorrow. I’m going to look again at the new recipe for the chicken korma to see if there’s anything else I can prep today ready for tomorrow.

I was reasonably productive yesterday I got all the washing, drying and ironing done, although there’s another small load already. I didn’t get the housework done but can run hoover over at some point today. This morning I will be going to town, visit the bank, then on to do the food shopping. I will cook if I get chance this afternoon. Menfolk have been talking about wanting cake – so hoping I can find time to make a jam and cream sponge. I don’t think I’ve mentioned before but my youngest - DS2 – has challenged himself to not eating chocolate for a YEAR he started this on 1st Jan this year and so far has kept it up – even through Easter whilst we were away at my younger sister’s and her kids are still little so had loads of Easter eggs. Admittedly he did nearly crack but he didn’t, also people who would have bought him a Egg have given him money instead, so he’s doing really well. He’s only doing it because eldest DS1 tried to do the same thing a couple of years ago and he lasted 2 hours!

    Have good Fridays’ everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

Morning all and thanks for starting the thread nmlc. Well done to your chocolate-free DS, sound s as if he is doing really well despite temptation. Hope you find time for your baking.

Been awake on and off since half three with hacking cough and sore throat so thought I may as well get up and potter. A reasonable morning here, a little overcast but I think the rain will hold off until tomorrow so we can finish the gardening jobs.

We're taking the DDs and Dd1's BF to lunch later, food will be covered by T@sco tokens but there probably won't be any more of those as I do most of my shopping in Waitr@se/Aldee/Lidly these days. DDs BF is running the London marathon on Sunday, he's only 19 and is running in memory of his Auntie who died very young last year, so sad. He and DD will be travelling down by coach tomorrow to pick up his number and we will be glued to the TV on Sunday and following his progress on the app when you can track individuals. Think the forecast is pretty poor for Sunday though.

More washing/drying/ironing to clear today and a big pot of soup to make with some YS veg.

Hope everyone and their DHs are well, have a good day all x
  • Morning one and all. Lovely start to the day, the sun is shining and pleasantly warm already. Sadly the forecast is for rain by evening and typical April weather taking over.

Still thinking how things are for you and yours ELONA. (((Hugs)))) to all.

Two of the three DGDs are up and watching "I can cook" - I'll glad when they can!! Actually I have a fairly easy day cooking wise. I made a giant Shepherds Pie last night, with roasties, carrots, peas and swede. Quite a bit left so that got plated up and will do for tonights dinner, smothered in gravy. Lunch something simple (maybe HM soup from freezer and a wrap) as it's Friday cleaning day and boy, after 3 DGDs sleeping for 2 nights, does it need it!! Sticky finger marks everywhere too.

Have a good day all, take care whatever you are doing xx

    Morning everyone.

Very grey here, lots of low cloud agsin. Yesterday was grey most of the day until about 6.00pm when the sun eventually burnt through. I was sitting outside watching the beautiful sunset until fairly late.

After my exertions in the morning I was fairly whacked. There's still seven bags of logs to actually empty and stack in the back barn but at least they are all indoors.

My cutting back on eating is still going well. Im sort of enjoying the morning porridge even if I still think its a form of sludge without much taste. Adding banana and cinnamon helps. There will be no takeaway again this week, that makes three in a row.

There is so much rubbish to take to the tip. Apart from 50 net bags there is another huge pile of cardboard and plastic to go too. It will be good to get rid of it all.

Then I will sit and watch WA1 and The Last Leg from last night.

I hope everyone has a good Friday and there is happy news for us all.

    Morning All

No sunshine for us this morning but it's not raining yet. Loving the weather we have had, just right for me.

Not got a whole load of washing of anything so that can wait till tomorrow. Need to dust, I think it has settled after having the fire fitted last week.

Haircut after work, I look like a wild horse! Have a good day everyone, take care. XX

    Morning all,

Quite foggy here this morning lets hope it burns off later on, off to work for me I will get my car cleaned there today, one of the clients has set up a business where he will wash your car for £5 he does a very good job and its a bit of money in his pocket and I would rather pay him than anyone else. I must try and hoover the inside over the weekend as its a bit of a state.

So glad its Friday its been a long week, going to have an easy dinner of pasta with crème fraiche mushrooms and olives with some bacon or something for OH.

Will do a wash tonight and get on the airer, if its nice tomorrow I will hang it out but I think its meant to be raining.

    Have good days all x

Elona let us know how you are xx

    Morning guys,
Sunny here this morning. Moved the garden pots around yesterday. Also moved the bench so I am away from the connecting fence. Don't want to smell their barbecues!
Had the rest of the fence put up on Tuesday, now I don't have to see next door:T

SIL is so suspicious of DD at the moment. She has organised a surprise party for him on Saturday, for his 30th birthday. He thinks she's having an affair!:rotfl:
He'll have to eat humble pie next week!:rotfl:

    Have a good day all!

Good Morning all, bright and sunny at the moment here in north Kent. Managed to get all of my washing and ironing done yesterday, so I'm a happy bunny this morning. After breakfast and a shower I am off to get my hair trimmed at the hairdressers then home for a light lunch then History class resumes this afternoon :):):)

Tomorrow I am going up to London with youngest DD to have lunch and the matinee of Cats in the afternoon. My birthday treat from February as she didn't fancy going mid-winter in case we had bad weather.
I watched W1A last night and found it very funny,my eldest DGS worked for 6 years in TV and he says its very like how it is.(He worked for endamol though ,slightly more down to earth ) The media types were well represented in it though.I have The Last Leg on my TiVo box to watch later :):):) I do like Adam Hills.
Right well time to toddle I think
Have a good day what ever you are doing and <<hugs>> to those who are down or poorly

  • Good Morning everyone, it's a much cooler day here with cloud cover and is slightly misty too. He Who Knows and the Dockling are out for an early walkies as we all woke up just after 6 this morning and I got up to make tea. Not a great deal planned for today, He Who Knows will allotment and I shall go to the local centre for a few bits and pieces and to return some library books. I've a tiny bit of ironing to do as well but other than that the day is 'freeform'!

ELONA I hope you are all OK after yesterday, thinking of you and hoping things have improved.

Have a good day everyone, Lyn xxx.
