Best Free Website Hosting

I have a website on a free hosting service that's become unreliable. I want to move my (very simple) site to another free home if possible.
Does anyone have experience of free web hosting that does not force ads or pop-ups onto your website?
So far I've found 000web and xtreemhost which look as though they might fit the bill.
EDIT: see post #15 below explaining why avoiding 000webhost and hosting 24 might be advisable.

Best thing is try some and see.... I've long given up on free hosting as it's pretty cheap to get add free full hosting.
Never trust information given by strangers on internet forums0 -
Try Moonfruit. I've used them for several voluntary organisations over the past few years and found them very good.

Thanks. Had a look at Moonfruit but it's not what I need. The free site is limited to 15 pages and they do not allow FTP uploading which makes moving my site a bit tricky.0 -
OP, is your site not for profit or a charity? Some give free hosting for theseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Try biz.nf - good for the price ;-)0

Thanks for the replies.
My site isn't a charity site.
Awardspace and biz.nf both look as though they could fit the bill.0 -
Hostinger is another option. I had a site with them for a while with no problems, no ads. I even installed a WordPress site with them. I believe they're the UK branch of 000Webhost, but I may be wrong.

000webhost were excellent when I used them.
But if your site or the domain it's linked with originates any spam whatsoever, even due to your site being hacked/misused, you'll be cut off. They are very good at detecting such issues and leave it to you to sort it out.0 -

Thanks, hostinger looks good.
000web is emerging as the favourite: gets good write-ups, huge bandwidth, bags of disk space and unlimited domains.
Is there anything I can do to prevent the spam problem to which you refer, buglawton?0
