Wheel fell off car on motorway

            Hi Captain
Believe me I'm not relaxed but i'm just very happy at the moment that I didn't kill or injure anyone - it was just a car that was hurt - which can be replaced!0 -
I'd certainly be pushing for V/x to examine the bearing carrier, but it isn't the first time I've seen remarkably similar damage. One was a Vectra that had been clouted against a high kerb on an icy road and the other was a Mondeo that, after a hard days drifting, whacked a kerb at surprisingly low speed.
Get your witness details sorted out and plan for a long battle.0 -

Looks sheared to me not missing.0 -
yup sheered in the second photo , but completely missing (empty holes) in first pic
right click /save/view then blow up ,0 -
If that was impact damage you'd expect to see at least bending of the tie bar before the hub snapped like that. Everything else looks far too straight. The wheel damage could also easily be caused by a loose wheel at 70mph bouncing all over the place!
Rather than everyone speculating (although it's entertaining) you should really be contacting Vauxhall in case it is a manufacturing defect - someone has to be the first for a fault to show up on and, with a car that new, you may just have drawn the lucky straw!0 -

If they sheared then the stubs would have fallen out of the (clearance) holes on the hub carrier, hence the first photo.0 -
            That's the rear wheel correct?
I think you'll find it snapped off after the car went into a spin.
It certainly shouldn't have though..... But it could have been weakened by a previous impact.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

strider590 - would you expect it to snap off?0

the OP says the wheel fell off THEN he went into a spin , he initially thought (at least this is the way I read it) that he had had a blow out0
