A phone locked to O2 works with giffgaff and Tesco sims, but not vice versa.

I had a tesco iphone and could use a giff gaff sim. Like I said it was iphone4s

most tesco sims need unlocking but some do work.

So, it's not as definite as you say.

Thanks for that. I had intended trying the giffgaff SIM which I can get for free. If it doesn't work I'm still not sure whether the phone is locked to Tesco or to O2. I've read if it's locked to O2 I could order an O2 PAYG SIM, load it with £15 and use that to pay O2 to unlock it. Any way to tell which of the 2 networks its locked to?
