How definitely?burnsguitarman wrote: »As Tesco and Giff Gaff both piggyback the O2 network, they should work, without unlocking, definitley did on iphone4s.
A phone locked to O2 works with giffgaff and Tesco sims, but not vice versa.0 -

So, it's not as definite as you say.most tesco sims need unlocking but some do work.

Several months ago I bought my daughter a new SIM free iphone 5S on ebay. Since it originally came from Carphonewarehouse it locked to the network of the first SIM inserted - Tesco/O2.
Her 12 months contract is almost up and I'm thinking of switching to Giffgaff. I know that Giffgaff piggy backs O2. Will a Giffgaff SIM work in her now locked phone or do I need to get Tesco (or O2) to unlock it first?
Its worth trying a giff gaff or O2 sim, it could well work.0 -

Thanks for that. I had intended trying the giffgaff SIM which I can get for free. If it doesn't work I'm still not sure whether the phone is locked to Tesco or to O2. I've read if it's locked to O2 I could order an O2 PAYG SIM, load it with £15 and use that to pay O2 to unlock it. Any way to tell which of the 2 networks its locked to?0
