Thursday 23rd April - What small DFW things will you do today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important:money:

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
Morning Ziggy - good luck with your list today.

Jo Jo - from last night's thread, that all sounds very stressful. I hope your discovery of the maternity leave error will help get things sorted now.

BB - I suppose there is always someone worse off (as we see it) managing the same things as us. Sounds like you have some challenges yourself with OHs health.

Off to work shortly. Hoping for a decent day but not too crazed as I went to bed with a headache and woke up feeling tired and drained. But I suppose that is normal as the week progresses. I can't wait for Saturday as I am going to decathlon to buy 4 bike panniers which will hopefully put a stop to riding with large amounts up on my back. They aren't very much.

    Have a good Thursday all.

    Morning all :)
Bob, do take care! Not sure you should be cycling around with huge loads on your back when you are feeling tired etc :(
Hope you can sort out the benefits issue soon Jojo :(

Up early this morning as sis in law is coming down, as she and OH are off to see one of their elderly relatives for a couple of days. I will stay here and look after the dog :)

    So far I /we have:
    Hoovered
    Cleaned bathroom
Cleaned kitchen (even OH says it is like having HM Inspector of Kitchens round for a visit :rotfl:)

    Still to do:
Clear out my car, as they have somehow arranged this visit for the precise time that OH's is booked into the garage for its MOT and service  Anyway, it doesn't matter, as I am quite happy without it for a few days. OH did it, fair enough as he wanted to use it :D

Make soup for lunch, leek and potato today :)Done, and there is loads left!

Take a few items to the CS later, once OH and sis in law have left. I put on a pair of jeans that I had forgotten about this morning and they are ENORMOUS  I am no longer a slender little thing, but these are really big, too long as well as too wide. I had to hoick them right up under my boobs with a belt which was really uncomfortable. Strange, as they are the same 'size' as all my others. Anyway, they either came from a charity shop or ebay in the first place, so they can go, along with a couple of books that I have read but don't want to keep, and an unwanted casserole dish. That will be my decluttering for today :)Done, all gone, and I found an extra book to take as well :)

    Walk, for free exercise Done

Pop into sales unit while I am out to see if I need to take any new bits in. I can't manage anything big without the car, but can take along some smaller bits if needed :)I will take some things down tomorrow morning :)

Leftovers for supper, chilli and rice :)Actually had the chilli with leftover veg from the fridge

Bit of paperwork for business Oops still to do

    Check banks And this :o

Tidying / watering in garden later Done, tidied the back garden, swept the patio and watered all the pots and seedlings. I will water the pots in the front garden tomorrow morning :)

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Morning folks!

Thanks to ziggy for starting us off

Bob - be careful, don't wear out :)

JoJo - hope you get everything sorted

BB - sorry that your OH is not well, you are doing amazingly

Another gorgeous day, but it's supposed to be coming colder at the end of the week. Cannot decide if my plants will need some extra protection. It's not supposed to frost but if anyone has any advice?

    Today's list:
    • Resow tray of salad - done
    • Sow spring onions around the carrots to try and avoid carrot flies - done
    • Re-prime the slug trap with fresh yeast. It's no longer attracting them.
    • B/L/D from stores. OH has requested pasta for tea - done
    • Charge phone in work - done
    • Check online banking. - done
    • Tend to garden
    • Bit of housework. Current rota/plan not really working as OH not really doing any of it. Idea was that it wouldn't matter too much if he didn't get round to doing anything, but I didn't envisage doing all of it! - done
    • Log calories in app. Must start concentrating on it as weight not coming down in a satisfactory manner! - done
    • Run at lunchtime with colleagues - done
    • Sort out car insurance - done. Didn't go with the very cheapest quote, but only £40 more to stay with my current provider and have been happy with their service so far.
    Another basic list!

    Have a good one all

  • Good morning!
Hope everyone is doing well and has a lovely day.
Well, I was hoping to make today another NSD but unfortunately DH's mobile finally died this morning so will be going to get him a new one this afternoon. Sadly with his job and two small people, a mobile is a necessity so we have no choice. He has a work mobile but it can't be used for personal calls. He works for an American company and they are notoriously stingy. I also don't think we can get cash for recycling it if it's not in working order either - argh! I will have to check, so that's a job for today.
I need to make another batch of flapjacks too. I tried a new recipe yesterday that replaces the sugar with mashed bananas and it went down a storm, we have only three left :o
Last job is to replant three wild strawberry plants I found growing in my back garden this week into proper pots. The seeds from last year's strawberries must have blown around the garden and I've got two growing through cracks in my paving and one in the veg bed! Ah well, lots of free strawberries to come :D

    Hi Polly,

You can get cash for non-working mobiles, but not particularly much as you can imagine.

These is a tool on mse that compares different recycling places so you can get the best price

Ohh, thanks for the link Carrie, will definitely be checking that after DS2 has his snooze.
Ziggy, the recipe is really easy. I adapted it from a recipe I found online:
    100g butter
    200g oats
    100g sultanas
    3 tbsp honey
    2 bananas - mashed
    1 tsp cinnamon

The original recipe uses golden syrup instead of honey and dates instead of sultanas but I thought that'd be way too sickly sweet. It also adds a few handfuls of chopped walnuts and seeds but DS1 is too young for that to work for us.
You could swap back to golden syrup if you prefer it and of course substitute the sultanas for any other dried fruit you have in.

    Anyhoo...
Melt the butter in a saucepan then stir in the cinnamon (or ginger, whatever you like) & honey.
Chuck the oats into the mix and give it a good stir until they're coated thoroughly.
Mix in the sultanas and then add the mashed bananas and mix really well. Place in greased baking tin and put in the oven at 180 (gas mark 6) for 20 minutes.
Score lines for the 12 squares it makes whilst still warm from oven but don't cut until cool - and you're done :)
It makes quite a moist, sticky flapjack not the dense bar sort but that's what we prefer. In fact I used 2 & a half bananas each time because I had odd bits of DS1's left. It still sets into squares though, don't worry.
