Breakdown cover
Hi All,
I am looking ofr breakdown cover.
Homestart
Road side assistance
and onward travel.
I used to have a Barclays Premier account that provided all this.
I have looked at Green Flag which is the cheapest @ £60.00 others are almost double the price.
Only issue with Green flag is they have mixed reviews.
Please help.
Any links discount codes would go along way

Many people (including me and guys at my work) have luck with Autoaid - https://www.autoaidbreakdown.com
Cover for everything is £41 per year, you are covered rather than your vehicle, and it includes your spouse if you are married.
Only restriction is you pay for the recovery at the time and claim the cost back, but from reviews I have read people do seem to get their money back quickly. They also don't operate their own fleet, but use local recovery services.0 -
+1 for AutoAid. I've been with them for years, had to call them out about 4 times ( well, me and the Mrs. between us ), can't fault them. As the previous poster says, they cover you and spouse ( if applicable ) in any vehicle, so if you've got more than one car in the family it's even better value. But it's good value anyway.0

Green Flag are great, I have been with them off and on for years. I always go through Quidco and get cashback. For some reason Green Flag do not appear on Quidco any more (just checked), but others such as RAC are giving good cashback, so worth checking Quidco first.0

Green Flag have always been very reliable in my experience. Unlike RAC that left us stranded overnight in pouring rain in the early hours of the morning, miles from home! They couldn't find evidence on the system that we'd actually joined despite having a home, roadside & recovery membership card in our hands (paid for via Clubcard points) so had to agree to pay £200 up front before coming out.
Having eventually arrived around 4am they inspected car at roadside but said they couldn't fix so we then had to arrange a private recovery company to rescue us the next day at a cost of £300+VAT.
Would never touch RAC with a barge pole!0 -
I've had good service from the RAC in the past but am now with AutoAid due to the cost. Used AutoAid once. The service you get is down to what company gets called to you but if you are local and happen to know a good one, you can use them. Either way you claim the cost back from AutoAid.
Only gripe I had (not AutoAid's fault) is that the breakdown truck pulled my car onto the transporter at a very steep angle by its anti-roll bar. Fortunately no damage appears to have been done but generally not a good idea; however at the time it was dark and he insisted we stay in the cab (health and safety) while he loaded the car on the transporter. It was only when we got back I found the car hanging by it's ARB instead of by the built-in tow-hook.0 -
It's a game of chance.
I have only once had to telephone breakdown to change a tyre (the nut was so tight, even the mechanic struggled!).
I have had to have a car towed round the corner to a garage too, which cost £90.
However, money saved by not having any cover in place? Lots more than it's actually cost.
Plus, I heard you can join the AA, then call them out straight away if you're broken down. So unless you drive a car that is always breaking down, then I don't see the need.
Yes, it's a "just in case" type of insurance, and many people pay without question. However, I urge you to question before handing over money, just on the off chance something will happen.0 -
I asked the same question a few weeks ago
I ended up with Start rescue, £29 for the year to cover all you have asked for0 -
I just got my renewal letter for my RAC roadside cover. It was asking for £44. "You're 'avin' a laugh mate!" I said to myself and promptly rang the retention hotline. 10 mins later my renewal is now under £20. That's the most money I've ever made in 10 minutes! lol0

You can BUT cover after joining ad hoc is limited to roadside assistance only which includes towing to a nearby garage. This is no good if you want your car contents and yourself and passengers recovered back home.0 -
start rescue has always been good for me-they use a local firm near to you and u get 6 callouts per yearWhat goes around-comes around0
