Ebay seller trying to pull a fast one / Paypal dispute

Hi, any advice offered on how best to deal with a dispute raised by an ebay seller trying to pull a fast one on me would be appreciated. Here is a quick summery of the predicament.

I bought a macbook for £510 on ebay, it was advertised as including microsoft office. It arrived however the microsoft office serial key is already in use (obvsiously by the seller) so I was unable to install the product. The following interactions I have in my ebay messages as proof of discussion. I complained to the ebay seller who first tried to get me to download an illegal crack for it giving me website links to use, I refused. I carried on complaining to him as the item was mis sold and he eventually gave me £100 refund through pay pal which is the price of the software.

Fair enought I thought, I let it go.

Now 1 month on he has raised a dispute on pay pal declaring that he bought Microsoft office from me for £100 and has not received the item and wants a refund. The £100 has temporarily been taken from my account.

What can I do here to convince pay pal of the truth and any plan of action?

Many thanks,

Luke

Are they a private seller or business?

I don't know how long you have to open a case with ebay but it's worth a look

Was the £100 a refund from your payment to him or a separate payment to you? I'm wondering how he can open a dispute on a partial refund to you

Did he say he would give you £100 in ebay messages?

sounds like it was a separate refund.

I think you will have to talk to paypal , and allow them access to your ebay messages , has the seller timed it correctly for not having the machine sent back (dunno this one)

plan b: go to his house and %%^&^ him
  • hi yea he refunded me through pay pal bypassing bays refund process. He is a private seller.
  • get paypal on your side , print out (or save in notepad) all the communications inc dates , so that you can read them out , or even forward them to PP , speak up and tell the truth , hopefully someone might listen to you. also speak to ebay to forwarn them of this action against you ,

when he did the refund , where there any headers saying "refund" , or did he do it as a gift? (did you get charged PP fees ? )

I'd personally open a not as described case for the MacBook. Assuming it's in the same condition it was when you received it. And you're still within the 180 day limit. Obviously I'd refund the seller the £100 too.

It may make the seller think twice when he sees he will have to give you a full refund. PayPal will instruct you to Return it via tracked means and then give you a full refund. The item wasn't as described since it didn't have office as it should have.

If he wants to try and pull a fast one. Wash your hands of the entire situation and get a full refund. Perhaps he'll think twice before trying to pull a fast one in future.

  • yes 180 days , I agree with showing the seller you are not rolling over , start removing your info , and do a restore (not up on macs) and send the bloody thing back

teach the !!!!!! a lesson , ok , you loose £100 , but its worth it for the satisfaction.

But they don't loose the £100. They paid £510. The seller refunded £100 for the missing software so that brought the price down to £410

They refund the sellers £100 which takes the price back up to £510. Put in a not as described case and get a full refund of that £510.

Yes it's a hassle but as you said, worth it to show the seller the OP won't be messed with. Then if they haven't left feedback leave a nice red, factual, negative and low stars.

The seller is hopping the OP a will roll over and let them get away with this dodgy practice. Please don't do that.

Make sure you open a case in paypal not ebay, ebay will let you open one even though it's too late for one and you then won't be able to open a paypal one (I believe).
  • thanks for help guys, Yes I look into dealing with it on pay pal. He must have paid me as a gift as there was a small fee taken off the 100 quid.
