Barclays Paytag on a iphone with a cover - will it work ?

Hi,
I have just received a Barclay's Paytag for my Barclaycard which I can stick on the back of my iPhone, but my iPhone has a clear silicon case on it, will the Paytag still work.

I am also a bit unsure of using it as I know I am going to get funny looks when paying with a mobile phone as a contactless purchase rather than a card, the other thing is I know with a contactless card you only get 3 -4 contactless transactions before it will ask you to insert your card and use your PIN, but how is this going to work with your phone ??.

I am pretty sure you can stick the Tag to pretty much anything, not necessarily to a mobile.
However, I'd be surprised if the glue sticks to silicone. Most likely it will work if you stick it to the phone under the cover or just put inside between the phone and the cover.

    Hi,
Sorry I did mean stick it on the back of the phone so the case would be over it, but not sure if the signal or whatever would get through the case.

Just put it between without sticking and check whether it works. As simple as that.

You won't get random security checks on your paytag. The Paytag authorises in real time (Whereas a contactless card generally approves without contacting the bank), so if it was lost/stolen it would be declined.

At the risk of being pedantic, if it was reported as lost/stolen it would be declined!

It's an iphone, surely it must be clever enough to report itself as lost or stolen? Or is there something that Apple aren't able to do after all? :rotfl:

As an aside, it is not a given that you will have to input your PIN after 3 or 4 contactless transactions, I have been using the method 2 or 3 times a week for the past 18 months and have yet to be asked to do this.

Do you mean you've been using the card exclusively for contactless transactions for 18 months?

If you do 3 or 4 contactless transactions, then do a Chip and PIN transaction - the use of the PIN confirms that the card is in 'safe hands', and so you can then do another 3 or 4 contactless transactions, and so on.

I intersperse contactless transactions and Chip and PIN transactions, and so it's very rare that I'm asked for a PIN with contactless.

I find with American Express they don't even ask for a PIN, after 3 or 4 consecutive transactions, they will just authorise the contactless transaction in real time instead.
