There's no problem with either (other than the oik on the other end of the phone not understanding) and that goes for both DVLA and insurers.0

OK, just a quick update. Wife rang the insurer who are fine with me being the registered owner of the vehicle as we are married and it is the main car. So thankfully no change needed to be made to her policy (and no fees!)0

The instructions for completing the form https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/360103/V62_220714.pdf state not to use joint names. To the best of my knowledge this has been the case for many years but that doesnt mean that someone doing the data entry wouldnt do so blindly thus creating it in dual names.
As others have said, and you've found, insurers arent worried about ownership/keepers between married couples0 -
InsideI - I've only ever bought from dealers and somehow they have always put it in joint names so not sure how they have managed it!0
