Can i change supplier now

I am currently on a fixed price dual fuel tariff with first Utility which ends on 31st May. There is a £30 early exit fee for each fuel.
Is it too early for me to know get the ball rolling to change supplier or should I wait until nearer the the time? I certainly don't want to get billed £60 for terminating the contract before it ends.
