Domestic & General Warranty Rip Off

This to warn anyone who has or is thinking of taking out an appliance warranty with Domgen to read the small print.
If an appliance cannot be repaired and needs replacing these clauses should be heeded " You must pay the supplier's delivery charge, this will vary depending on the make and model but will be the cost the supplier charges us without any mark up'
"If we decide to replace your product your policy will end immediately and any unpaid premium for the current policy period will become due"
My relative had a contract with them on an integrated fridge for 8 years paying monthy instalments (over £900) but it stopped working just a few weeks into the current year, they told her under the terms of the contract she would have to pay an additional £125 for an equivalent replacement, despite her telling them she would accept a cheaper model. It seems depending on when it breaks down they deduct the rest of the years policy fee even though you haven't yet paid it!!
Despite a complaint NOT being upheld they agreed to pay her a cash settlement for their liabilty of £312.84 (more than enough for a cheaper replacement) and cancelled the policy.
Loyalty and previous payments are not taken into account therefore in future she wil heed advice from others to put a small sum away each month herself.
The moral of the story is if you have one of these 'rip off' contracts to make sure your appliances break down at least 8 months into a new contract so you get maximum benefit and value for your money!!

Paying by installments just means you are given a loan for the premiums, often at a very high APR. The full premiums are still due on day 1 of the policy.
If it breaks on day 2 or day 300 of the policy the full years premiums are due. All the "extra" you get is 298 days protection that you didnt actually need.
All insurers call in the premium loan in the event of a total loss as you will find customers suddenly stop liking the idea of paying the monthly premiums after the policy is ended.0 -
So not a rip off.
Too many people shout 'rip off' and 'scam' but its because they haven't read the terms and conditions before signing to say that its fine.
Personally I wouldn't take out one of these insurances. I would put an amount equivalent into a separate account and it would pay for any repairs and within 5 years pay for having an applicance replace.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I recently had a problem with a similar company.
I took out a monthly service agreement with a domestic applicance company. Sold all the wonders and benefits of their company!
It wasn't until my washing machine broke down and they were unable to fix it I realised the disadvantages of this particular company. I was offered cash or an alternative machine, or could spend more money to upgrade to a higher spec machine, ok - after investigation I came to the conclusion this was ok. The £120 installation fee however was not. I decided to go a different route and cancel my insurance. Only to be told that by initialising a call out I was bound to them for 12 months and should I wish to make a call out for any other applicance covered I would be bound for a further 12 months - how on earth could you ever cancel your agreement with them!!!!
I am now having to pay the £66 call out fee as I wish to cancel my agreement With them. They will not refund my payment that was taken today before I could cancel my payment. Nor will they refund any of my payments that I have made since March.
This company contacted me it wasn't something I was looking for. Am extremely frustrated and out of pocket!
Be very careful when taking these policies out and read the t&cs with a fine toothed comb!!!!!!0 -

Not much help to anyone else unless you name the companyAll matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.0 -
It always amuses me that people don't read their policies, then complain the policy isn't good enough, or is a rip off when they need to claim.0

Sorry the company name is domestic appliance cover.0
