Unfair negative feedback

I've been on ebay since 2000 and have a thousand positives (no negs, no neutrals), and high dsr ratings. Just got completely unfair negative feedback and I can't see any way to get rid of it.

I sold something collect only. Buyer paid on purchase via paypal but has constantly messed me around, not turning up several times at times they suggested, meaning I've been waiting in for nothing. Latest time, they missed again, so I phoned them and said one last chance or if they don't want it, I'll give a refund. They emailed back to ask for a refund, which I sent immediately.

Next day, I see I've got horrendous negative feedback, blaming me and telling others not to deal with me.

I can't see any way of getting this removed, or even any way of giving negative feedback in return for them as a poor buyer. Am I missing something?

You might have had a lucky escape, PayPal on a collection item

However, whilst eBay are unlikely to do anything about it, I would still give them a ring and plead your case. You never know, it might just work.

And sellers are not able to leave anything but positive feedback for buyers.

At the very least post a response to the feed back saying how many times they failed to turn up etc.

In the mean time, respond to the neg saying "buyer failed to turn up 3 times to collect so refunded. Unfair neg"
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

As a buyer, if I see one negative out of thousands - or even hundreds or tens - of positives, I don't worry too much. Reading the details of the text, and any response, usually makes it fairly apparent who was really at fault. Often you can spot unreasonable buyers. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Report the buyer anyway - you may not be the first to report them for being a nuisance/time waster. If ebay already have other reports on the same buyer they may see a pattern and may well pull the negative - I've had negatives pulled from my account and I'm fairly sure it's because I reported a troublesome buyer. They'll never tell you they have done it though.

Unfortunately it is the visibility of a neg that hurts a seller, it is the associated defect.

Another blow for sellers as eBay don't want to get involved with feedback removal any more. I have a buyer who bought an item, changed her mind and demanded a refund. That day, before having chance to do it she left negative saying I wouldn't refund. Asked eBay to remove it giving all the details and their reply was to contact the buyer and ask her to revise. Where has coat gone? It was much easier to get hold of them via chat. Now you have to go around in circles before finding a way of getting them.

I now have a negative through a buyer's mistake/change if mind and eBay think that's fair.

Leave follow up feedback detailing their repeated failure to collect. As a buyer I'm always skeptical about the occasional outraged neg. What feedback have they left for others?.

  • As a buyer I look for a big pattern of positives. I ignore badly-expressed negatives and ones where the tone is unpleasant.
