Flight Delay

We recently flew with BA to Heathrow, were re-routed to Manchester due to fog at Heathrow and the pilot said he didn't have enough fuel to wait in the queue for landing. We know the Glasgow flight got to land ok at Heathrow, flight sat at Manchester for nearly 3 hours (with us on board) before taking us to Heathrow. Put on later flight at 14.35 to NYC instead of our original flight at 09.50, do you think we have a worthwhile claim for this? Ended up being 5 hours late getting into NYC. Thanks

you need to start here https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5173888
then if you need to post further there is a BA specific thread
note: different aircraft have different visibility limits plus in poor visibility, ATC would be controlling the queues and the volumes decrease significantly with some aircraft possibly being diverted to other airports
No airline would choose to divert unless they had no other option
Both weather + ATC would mean compensation would not apply

you could see if your travel insurance would pay anything but unlikely
