If, after going through your emails and bank/card statements, you still draw a blank would taking your relevant details (old and new addresses, car details and your ID) to the local police station and asking them if they can look it up for you be of any help?

There are not that many companies. I would phone the likely suspects and ask if you have a policy with them.

Any insurer would have access to a common database and would be able to find your insurer, but I doubt they would divulge that info to you.

Ha ha at people suggesting how to search emails.

The OP has already said they've searched emails and found nothing.

After printing, I don't keep the email. However, I do keep the digital certificates and such on my PC, so can always refer back if I need to.

Sorry can't add anything to your query OP. However, this will probably teach you the lesson of storing certificates, digitally or not, carefully.

You should be able to look in the car's glove compartment (or other hidey-hole) as it makes sense for several reasons to carry your insurance certificate with you when you drive. I hope you have a mail redirection in place so that when your renewal letter comes it'll get to you. And that you don't have an accident in the meantime as you are at risk of getting done for failure to provide insurance details.

Payment method would appear to best way to check.

Do you normally pay one lump one lump sum or monthly? Bank or card statement will have a record.
