I won't have it fitted because they are !!!!!! and I wouldn't buy a house with them fitted and have not made offers on 3 houses in the last year due to to them having fitted the things.
  • Solar water works, almost all other greening is a subsidised racket that benefits the few. Windy mills ............ and it came to pass for the inefficient and intermittent energy production, paid by all into the pockets of the few that typifies on-shore wind turbines that power this white elephant - good riddance. Now do the same for solar, if you want solar pay for it yourself please don't make me pay for your subsidies.

A decent 4kw system can be picked up for £5k inc scaffolding etc. payback around £700 per year (via FIT/energy saved/exported). A decent investment which is still good value if you find a decent personal loan to pay for it.
Index linked to RPI remember. 20yrs.

I heard about some issues with rent a roof schemes and mortgages years ago but no issues in this respect for at least 2yrs although the myth you can't sell your house goes on.

useful to see where energy comes and goes from.

I don't think I would buy if they looked an eyesore especially on the front but who cares what they look like from the back? (south facing back garden rule lol).

I would not be put off by a house having them fitted on the back, in fact I would treat them as a positive given the fit payment and reduction in electricity costs.

From recent posts on MSE it doesn't appear to be a myth about people experiencing difficulties selling properties with Rent - a - Roof panels.

Do a search for 'mortgage + solar' in the energy section of MSE.

Whilst some people do not consider panels to be an eyesore, surely nobody considers that they enhance the appearance of a property.

Considering a Rent a Roof house owner will be lucky if he saves £2k to £3k over the life of a system, that sum can easily be wiped off the sale value because of the presence of the panels.

    Mine are not that visible.
I have some on one side that you wouldn't see at all and some on the front that aren't very visible.

Yes I have seen and replied to some of those posts.

I deal with Solicitors around my area which is predominantly ASG territory and they have no issues with mortgages.

Consider the amount of properties which have gone through a sale since ASG began it must be thousands by now.

As I replied I would be surprised if a conveyancer had not now come across such schemes and understood how to proceed with the transaction.

Agreed ASG seem to be one of the best with a standard approved 'lease'; but it is not always straight forward even with that company.

There have also been reports of mortgage companies refusing to give mortgages on Rent a Roof properties.
  • Then there is the deterioration of the roof tiles.
You see, water from rain running down roof will get into the tiles and because the solar panels shade them they will not dry out so well - as no sun now gets to them.
Coupled with some freezing winters and we will start to see damage to the tiles cracking an delaminating - which will require all the panels to come off to fix.

...and if you think your inverter will last 30 years then you are mad.
