I would argue that because we tax private property by 39%, we are 39% communist.

In that sense, here's how 'communist' the rest of the world is ...

Also, It's important to note that some Middle East governments are actually much more 'communist' than they appear because they 'tax' the resources from source heavily instead.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

The OP's original proposition is logically flawed. The Welfare State has been adopted as a necessity of an orderly Capitalist society.

It's existence and our motivation for having it are not related in any way to Communism, nor is it a driver towards Communism or Communist principles.

At the same time, the political motivation for the instigation of the Welfare State was undoubtedly Socialist in nature. It's arguable that its defining principles still are.

There is nothing intrinsically weak or wrong about having such a mixed approach to the Governance of our country - indeed it is typical of Western Europe in the present era.

We don't tax "private property" at 39%. And even if we did, it wouldn't make us 39% Communist.

Your income or profits being your private property.

Then you neither understand communism nor taxation.

Under communism, there will be no taxation at all. After all, it is "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need".

So you contribute what you can afford and take what you require ... A bit like
    the NHS then ?

nothing at all like the NHS
there you contribute what the state decides
and you 'take' only what the local hospital trust, your doctor, NICE etc decide to give.

Nothing at all like the NHS.

Your 'contribution' consists of your labour which "has become not only a means of life but life's prime want". It's not a question of 'affording' anything; you work for nothing, everything is free, and money has ceased to exist.
