Have a look in your task manager to see what's making your fan spin..

Sort the Processes tab list by CPU and see what is using the most. You might also need to press the Show processes from all users button too, in case it's a system process that's being problematic. (Ignore the System Idle process - that's supposed to have a high CPU usage).

I'm not sure that button exists in Windows 8.1 Task Manager?

I think it always includes them by default now- Windows 8.1 Task manager is, in my view, generally better than the one in earlier Windows versions.

If Task Manager starts up with a small box with 'More Details' at the bottom, click the More Details link to show the extra detail. Click on the CPU column to sort in order of CPU usage.

Also, you can use the App History tab to show which software has historically used the most CPU over the last month or so, (which is very handy) again by clicking on the CPU Time column, but make sure you go into the Options menu and check that 'Show History for All Processes' is ticked.

As Jivesinger says......Also, I don't think your 'trying to recover website' is a W8.1 problem. It's an Internet explorer problem. Try another browser to prove the issue.

I'll admit my earlier advice was based around Windows 7, and that I didn't know for sure whether W8.1 would also require this. That's why I said ...

Hmmm. PCW will just do a 8.1 refresh which may fix the problem. Did you find any process(es) to explain the loud fan?
If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.

I think I have made things worth, every website I go to is slow and either they are not responding or need recovering.
Is there anything a numpty like me can do or should I take laptop to PCW for a fix?
