It's just weird bcause I'm on a cruise next month!:beer:0 -
I hope you have a wonderful time!
However, if you can spend money on a cruise then why are you against private dentistry? Just like all other professions, not all dentists are the same. Some are good, some are not so good. But I really don't think we should give all dentists a hard time, just because of this wrangle with the government over whether it should be provided under the NHS umbrella or not. If you have to pay for NHS treatment anyway, why not spend a bit more (maybe sacrifice one holiday) and get really good treatment. For me, it's a no-brainer!0 -
Hi guys, I don't know if anyone knows the charges to orthodontics on the NHS? My teeth are very crooked and causing a lot of pressure pain. I think I may need a brace to straighten them to sort it out. WOuld an insurance company class this as cosmetic? I know they allow orthodontics if part of NHS treatment but not for cosmetic, but I think this would be treatment as they are causing me pain.2013 wins: March - book,0

Hi all - anyone got any suggestions for insurance to cover dental implants?0
-
Hi
I didn't think any insurance company covered dental implants, but it's possible SimplyHealth through their Simply Dental Plan do. I have just been hit with the increased premiums, decreased cover, from Tesco, so looking to change.
Simply Dental are about the same premium for me (once the NCD has been applied to the Tesco quote, I hate to think what the premium will be next year), similar cover, but does mention inlays, and attachments to implants. I need an implant, so won't be able to claim because it's pre-existing, but it's good to know some of the cost might be covered in future.
Has anybody got experience with Simply Dental?
Thanks, Roger0 -
Just wondering when the dental insurance section will be updated. The following message has been up since March:
"6 Mar 2009. IMPORTANT. This article was last majorly updated in 2007.
We are currently re-researching the top products and will be publishing the rewritten guide shortly."

Hi, I've been horrified with the increased premiums/massively poorer coverage under Tesco's Dental coverage (after years of singing their praises!). However, I've not found an alternative yet - any luck folks?
Thank you0 -
A lot of companies do this.
They come into the market without really understanding how their product will work.
It happened with Boots Dental Care and now Tescos.
If they don't put any requirement to be dentally healthy before signing up, then the people who will take out the policy will be people with loads of stuff wrong with their teeth, and so the money they pay out in claims will hugely exceed any premiums they take in. No company can run a product like that for very long!
It always surprises me when yet another 'big name' has a bash at making something like that work.
If you find one, then make the most of it, as it will never last more than 12-18 months before they realise their mistake! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
I'm with Denplan. They are damn expensive, but cover all treatment including emergency cover abroad and I have had to claim on this. They were brilliant I have to say. You have to pay your own lab work though is discounted. Have to say I've been with them for some years as have had a lot of dental troubles including 2 x surgery. I do trust my dentist implicitly. I travel 1.5hrs each way to get to him because hes so good. Incredibly good chair side manner. I'm paranoid terrified of dental work - he also gives me sedative tablet to take before a visit if I need treatment which helps.0

Does anyone know whether I can get a bridge done for a gap I have already, if I join Denplan? My dentist has implied that she probably wouldn't be able to do a bridge on the NHS, as a 'partial denture' would suffice.
As I am not very happy with the work my NHS dentist has carried out recently anyway, I am seriously considering joining Denplan. I know I would have to sign up to the more expensive plan - Denplan Care I think - to get more than just the checkups etc.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks.0
