We go every year to Eire (my family is Irish) or as another op puts it the free state and re the euro...you are right. For years used to not fill up the car till we arrived at Dublin wall (port) and then drive to the west and stop at Dunnes stores to get all the food for 2 weeks for the house. Now though I take any food I can with me..the cost of living there is :(
I have been to the North quite a few times driving from Sligo across and loved places like Enniskillen and the small towns and villages. I've been to Belfast but along time ago when it was perhaps mired by the times but would love to see it now.

We stayed in a little village the last twice Scariff Co Claire supposedly 13 pubs never found them all but had a great time
    Memories :j:j
and before that I forget but only 2 pubs and dead

Come North, it is well worth a visit. I wouldn't say everything is perfect but there are some amazing places to see and people to meet. I live in Belfast and its grand.

elliemoo I def. will go back to Belfast when I can but you know what families are like. I take my parents etc etc back to Mayo/Galway where they are from every year and once they get talking..... there's no moving them...but I will go again, I'd love to see what changes have happened.

You need to find the "secret" pubs, the ones that aren't actually pubs, are hidden by mountains and involve lots of ageing Irishmen talking sxxx for hours on end over a bottle of the "illegal" hooch poteen in some hidden away farmers kitchen. That stuff is pure evil in a bottle..the next morning you'll wake up thinking you've been embalmed..:rotfl:
