Don't know about that.
But knew a bloke thwt used to work on the docks driving the cars and he reckoned lots were damaged, and most abused0 -

Definitely not on the ship (Stena Shipper) I worked on transporting Volvos from Belgium to Immingham. That was in the mid to 90's though.0 -
I remember reading something Quentin Wison wrote saying 20% brand new cars were damaged during delivery.0

I wouldn't worry op - just driving in across the dealership could see some debris flicked up and hit it. One of those things0

yeah i know, no big deal, but I will be parting with some serious cash next week on this!
Firstly you have a good dealership as im sure some would have just told you there was a paperwork problem and you would never have known.
I believe things like that can happen in transit with the covering they put on new cars so when you do receive the car and check it over I would not make a big deal over it.
Perhaps you may get some freebies with it,car mats, car tax etc....0 -
Hi,
Just bought a new VW 2015 car, was a good deal on and we were in need of a new car. Bought it through main dealer, no probs all good. Dealer said would be ready next week. Was due to collect it today, dealership phoned to say, the valet team discover a couple of tiny chips in the paint work on the door.
A bit deflated given, that it was a new car, costing me a fair few bob.
Appreciate the sincerity of the dealer for letting me know the car is marked and they will make it like "new" for me to pick up next week.
It kind of takes the shine off the whole buying experience being told literally an hour before you are due to collect it, that the paint work has a chip on it already. I asked how it happened and was told that its possibly the plastic shrink wrapping that the car is in on arrival ?
Just wondering how any of you guys would feel or do in this situation ?
Cheers
I can totally get where you're coming from, but i'd try not to let it get to you, and enjoy your new car.
I bought a new Passat 2.0TDI in Nov 2009 and opted not to pick it up until the new year. Was all pleased as i dont often buy a new car. Had the car three weeks and my neighbours daughter reversed into the side of it causing £1,000 of damage. Whats worse was the body shop couldnt fix it for a month, so i had to drive about in a brand new damaged car for the month.

I'd just go in, kick the tyres and suck air through my teeth, mutter a little then tell the salesman that 'A sweetener' might be called for, like a further year full warranty to compensate for any future chips that might have appeared. Main dealers telling the truth? Spat my coffee out at that. :cool:0

OP the dealership has been open with you, Its not something that would be a deal braking issue to me, I would be honest back with them, when you go collect "I was disappointed because I was excited to receive my car on the original date, was really deflated and disappointed to be told it would be delayed due to body work issue", and ask if they could turn this disappointment into a plus by providing you with a tank of fuel and a nice flashy VW keyring and mats etc.0
