New Car Blues, advice needed
Hi,
Just bought a new VW 2015 car, was a good deal on and we were in need of a new car. Bought it through main dealer, no probs all good. Dealer said would be ready next week. Was due to collect it today, dealership phoned to say, the valet team discover a couple of tiny chips in the paint work on the door.
A bit deflated given, that it was a new car, costing me a fair few bob.
Appreciate the sincerity of the dealer for letting me know the car is marked and they will make it like "new" for me to pick up next week.
It kind of takes the shine off the whole buying experience being told literally an hour before you are due to collect it, that the paint work has a chip on it already. I asked how it happened and was told that its possibly the plastic shrink wrapping that the car is in on arrival ?
Just wondering how any of you guys would feel or do in this situation ?
Cheers

apparently a common issue.
Cars are wrapped while paint is still 'soft'
So the plastic can lift paint from edges etc on removal0 -

Brilliant answer, thanks so much, that helps explain things, was left wondering !!!!!! after the phone call, so again thanks for elaborating on this for me, just thought I was being given some sort of brush off as to what might have happened..0 -
Sounds like one of the valeters has planted it into a wall.
I'd ask to go and see it.
But it could be just a chip, which you would have been miffed at when you found it later that day at home.0 -

I got them to send me a picture, there are maybe 2 very tiny little chips in the paint, no big deal to fix I am guessing.0 -
Many 'brand new' cars will have some minor damage from transit/storage, and will have been repaired by the dealer to a high standard, so the customer is not aware. Apparently it happens a lot. Your dealer was honest enough to let you know about it. That would give me more confidence in the purchase, not less.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Absolutely agree, I think it is a highly honest approach, and I am happy to buy the car, car looks amazing chips aside!0 -
I remember reading seeing somewhere that the big car transporter ships that deliver new cars have an on board body shop team to repair cars damaged in transit0

I was told a horror story by a mate that was a senior tech at a BMW dealer back in the 90s.
A special order 5 series fell sideways off a transporter.
It was fixed and delivered.
When my mate did the PDi he asked if it had repairs on it as they said it did, there was slight door misalignment.
The BMW opinion was to send it out and deal with the issue if the owner spotted it and not before.
So I would suggest you VW dealer has given excellent service.0
