Smart Parking - Asda

Hi,
I received a letter through the post today for a parking charge for overstaying the 2 hour limit in Asda, Bangor, North Wales. However, I genuinely didn't intend on doing so (had family visiting from Dublin, who was browsing nearly every aisle, eating in the cafe).
I don't intend on paying it, as I find it cheeky. I've tried chatting to Asda, however, their reply is either pop into store ( I live 250 miles away ) or contact the company who issued the notice.
My family should theoretically also get a fine, however, as their car is on Irish plates, I don't think the company will chase them up over it.
Just looking for some advice on what would be the best way to go and appeal the notice?
I appreciate there is 1000s of posts on the same & similar issues but some dedicated help wouldn't go amiss.
If I can help by providing any images of the notice, then feel free to ask.
Much appreciated and thanks in advance.

just follow the flowchart in the NEWBIES sticky thread, and appeal the postal NTK for the UK plate, then take it to popla
if no NTK arrives for the irish car, slam dunk as its a "foreign" plate
also complain to ASDA head office or CEO0 -
Where are you based (England/Wales/Scotland/Ireland)? If anyone in Ireland gets a Smart NtK - they can safely ignore. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I gave an address in Germany once for the driver, they cancelled immediately0

repeat my posting above
I have an irish plate on my car , but its registered with the DVLA , is yours? or is it registered with the IRISH DVLA? northern Ireland or southern Ireland?
this is in regard as to if you will receive a NTK or not,
if Irish DVLA , don't worry , if English DVLA , follow normal rules0 -

Sorry if I have misunderstood you freddy but there is no Irish DVLA - in Eire it's called the VRU.
One can't have an Eire plate registered with the DVLA in Swansea.
I too have an 'Irish' plate - but NI - which is what I think you mean you have, and it wouldn't matter whether the registered keeper lives in Northern Ireland or anywhere on mainland UK - DVLA Swansea can and will supply keeper's details.
The reason is that since 21st July 2014 all vehicle registration in the whole of the UK and NI is the responsibility of DVLA in Swansea.
You can no longer register or tax a vehicle at any DVA office in Northern Ireland - the former office in Coleraine simply refers you to Swansea - they still deal with buses and taxis - but not private cars.

Of course if the car concerned was with Irish (Eire) plates then any PPC can go take a running jump.
The Irish Vehicle Registration Unit in Shannon, Co. Clare will not respond to a request for keeper's details regarding parking in the UK.0 -
Smart parking's ntks are not usually pofa compliant, so they can only go after the driver. If there is anything that identifies the possible driver in htis thread, consider editing it.
Then appeal on any ground.
Appeal to popla on the grounds the ntk is not compliant.Dedicated to driving up standards in parking0 -
Hi guys.
I followed the advice in the first reply, of checking out the newbie thread. I found the template letter to appeal, so I've filled that in and sent it off.
Just waiting to see if I hear anything back. Any idea how long it roughly takes for them to accept or deny an appeal?
Thanks.0 -
should be 14 days to acknowledge and a reply within 35 days0
