I used this the link provided on this weeks email which stated that using this would not leave a hard search on my credit file but it DOES!

This is not a hard search. It is a consumer enquiry, otherwise known as a soft search. Lenders cannot see this record, only you.

My wife has just used this tool and it reported: "Unfortunately, we have not been able to find your details at the Credit Bureau. Please check and try again". Yet she has recent credit reports from Experian and Noddle (Call Credit?) so they do "know" her and yes we have checked the details she entered and we believe them to be correct. Apart from a couple of joint mortgages many years ago (no missed payments) she has never had credit. She is a second holder on all my credit cards but is now seeking to have one of her own (just in case I drop dead!). Where do we go from here?

Is your wife on the electoral roll? If yes, is it showing as such on all 3 credit reference agencies (Experian, Equifax, Call Credit)?

Her being a second cardholder on your accounts will not show up on her credit files.

Does she have a mobile phone contract? Bank account? Any of these showing up in her files?

Yes to all except we don't have a report from Equifax. Her bank account (and also our joint account) is with the bank to which she is applying for a credit card...

I used moneysavingexpert credit card eligibility checker and it showed I have 95% chance of getting a fluid 33 month balance transfer card. I clicked the link and found another eligibility checker on the fluid website. I decided to try it before applying and it said I am not eligible for this card. Why is this. Anyone had similar experience.
I also tried the card matcher one on noddle site. And it showed me a completely different set of card t that of moneysavingexpert, that I am likely to get. Why is this

It is possible they are assessing data from different credit reference agencies.

Does that mean we could get rejected if we apply based on eligibility checker.and if rejected it will also affect credit rating.
I had used this to apply before and my application was successful but now a bit scared to apply again

There is always a chance you will be rejected.

I would expect the card's own website to be the best indicator.

Do you know if your credit files with the different agencies have significantly different reported data for you?

Will a single credit application search on your file affect your ability to get credit going forward? In the mid-long term definitely not, in the short term then a lot of applications close together can have a negative impact.

I used the noddle card matcher and was successful in my application.
