any PC makes to avoid

I know everyone will have their favourites and their 'not with a bargepole' makes- but I'm in the market for a new PC and am completely lost as to what to go for. I'm completely non techie, am dreading replacing the one I have as it takes me all day to 'plug and play' a new one.

I don't play games, or use fancy graphics or do much at all on it. I use it purely for email, loading photos for ebay- ebay selling etc. I use a PC as I can't 'think' properly on a laptop (told you I was a non techie) it needs to be wi fi enabled (my current one uses a plug in which I'm beginning to have problems with as my USB ports seem to have stopped working all the time) and it needs to be wired to a printer. That's all I need- nothing fancy.

I'm running a Packard Bell at the moment and I've been happy with it- it is just getting a lot of niggly faults now and as I mentioned I'm losing my USB ports and I want to replace it with a wi fi enabled one before this one dies.

I have no idea where to start- but perhaps knowing if there are any makes I should definitely avoid will narrow it down. Also is there anything at all I 'must' have that should be a deal breaker?

Thank you

Hi, Assuming that Macs are out of yr budget, then Lenovo do well in reviews, they have budget models for under £200, plus you can get cashback from stores such as SaveonLaptops.

I would avoid HP right now with the terrible trouble they have got themselves in with gluing the laptop hinges to the laptop lids. Dell (and some others) got themselves into trouble with cold solders on their graphics chips, to be fair this was some time ago, but I'm still keeping clear. The trouble with these "giants" has been their total lack of honesty when it came to accepting they had a problem, users had to fight to get these issues fixed - some guys on the Dells had their system repaired only for the system to fail again with the same issue!

You'll get a lot of conflicting advice here. I remind customers with an analogy in terms of cars. Renault used to have the highest rating in terms of warranty repairs (some 42%) whereas as you would expect RR was just 2%. If you had a Renault that was in the 58% that were okay, you might be expected to say how great they were. Conversely if you had a RR and was in the 2% bracket, you might say "rubbish".

So in the end, take a look and do some googling of a shortlist of 2-3 and see what the online reviews say.

    Good luck

Thank you robmarOse. Budget isn't really an issue and I'd love a Mac but everything I have and all the docs I share with work are PC enabled and whilst I now I can get programmes to use the docs I prefer to keep things simple.

I'm really dreading changing as it isn't the cost of the PC that is an issue, it is everything else. I'll have to re buy excel and things like that which I need for work and I have to get everything off this one via an external hard drive and put what I need on a new one. If I could just go and get a new one and everything magically went across I would be really happy ! Alas, that is probably something for the future.

My problem is that everythime I have an issue I decide to get a new one- but then it settles down and I think 'why bother', one day it is going to die on me and I am going to be completely stuck.I think though that the issue with using a plug in wi fi enabled dongle and my ports shutting down is becoming a real issue.

There some great Lenovo deals to be had:

Something like this I would suggest at £239.99 after £30 cashback:

Out of curiosity what do you currently have, exact model and OS would be helpful.
