"Calls are not currently being connected to this number"

Hi,

A friend gave me thier number the other day and we spoke to Sunday, I tried to call again but got the following automated error message:

"Calls are not currently being connected to this number"

Does this mean the phone has been lost\stolen and then cancelled? Or does it mean not paid the bill?

If lost\stolen and its a PAYG can they get the old number back? Just it was the only way of contacting each other, so we could be stuffed!:(

Any clues would be be appreciated! :)

Thanks

Sounds like non-payment of the bill to me.

Hope so... If lost\stolen what does it usually do? A constant beep or some other message? Thanks :)

Could also be that it's been reported lost/stolen I guess.

I have had this when calling my mum who's on PAYG and the handset is switched off/out of signal (she doesn't have voicemail). she's on Tesco Mobile PAYG.

What network is your friend on? They could contact Customer Services for the network they're on even by e-mail to find out what's going on.

If it's any help as you mentioned there was no other way of communicating, you could act as a proxy for your friend. Your friend would have to put you as a named person on the account, this can be done via e-mail although the network will want to confirm by phone. Maybe your friend can borrow one, hope it gets fixed.

BTW, I needed to use the proxy method to get roaming enabled on my account, I was in Tanzania and phone carges are astronomical so I couldn't phone myself. Friend call me, we did a 3-way with the network, I gave him the authorization and hung up. Friend did the needful and roaming was enabled the next day.

You need to trust your friend though, as they could seriously mess up your account - I've heard of friends doing that, both when 'trying to be helpful' and maliciously.
