Do you have a monthly card payment that goes out of your account to a company based in the US ? If you do, it's probably them checking the card is live before taking their payment.0

Yes I'm with Halifax and have had a couple of those show on my online banking recently, usually when I have bought something off EBay or Amazon.

I spoke to lloyds and they said they have no idea who it is. So I asked what happens when they take £1000 out of my account and they said basically worry about it when it happens. Great answer0

I've noticed something similiar with my TSB account and it relates to when I get petrol from a self serve pump at Sainsburys petrol station. It shows up as £0.00 for a few days then the amount comes out. I think it has something to do with you putting your card in before taking petrol and ithen it ties up once the debit reaches your account.0

What happens if/when any unauthorised transaction happens is that you follow their unauthorised transaction process and they'll refund any disputed withdrawals, although I take your point that on the face of it the risk of this is higher if this phantom authorisation is happening.I spoke to lloyds and they said they have no idea who it is.
