So, if your put in the work group are you still classified as disabled unable to work or can work somewhat with restrictions? Do you have to attend the job centre every 3 or 6 months and be expected to find work?

if you are placed in the work related activity group, you are expected to take part in work related activity.
this means anything from an interview at the hob centre every now and then ( i only ever had 2 over a period of 2 1/2 years) to manadorty work experience.
usually it can be taking courses, updating CV's or attending the work programme.
anything you are expected to do will be at the discretion of your advisor, and you are expected to comply unless you can provide evidence that it would be detrimental to your health condition
