Hi,

I have been sent a letter by the DWP for ESA as I require a medical certificate to be sent to them, however it does state if unable to acquire a med certificate fill out the questionnaire sign and date it and return it in the envelope provided?

Is this the normal procedure nowadays never claimed ESA before.

Also, I was awarded ESA without a face to face assessment is that normal?

Thanks.

if you are still sending medical certificates, then you aren't on ESA yet, just on the assessment rate.
after you have neem assessed they will either put you on main -phase ESA or find you fit for work.
as far as i am aware, to continue receiving assessment rate ESA you HAVE to send in medical certifivares
  • Yes you do need a medical certificate. My GP was somewhat bemused when I had to go and request one for my son (18 with autism) as she'd never laid eyes on him before (as he has been under the Paediatrician his whole life) but she did it anyway as he has a documented permanent disability.

Until you send one you won't move to ESA properly.

    Hi,

I was put into the support group without a face to face assessment, some people do go straight though without a face to face.

Have you been allocated into the WRAG group or support group yet? As far as I was aware you need to keep providing medical sick notes until you are assessed and put in a group. After that you wont need a sick note anymore.

no one is disputing the fact that some people don't have a face to face assessment, and that a decision is made based on the form and medical evidence.
the fact that the OP still requires medical certificates indicates they haven yet been assessed.
their claim will therefore be closed if no medical certificates continue to be sent

    1. I am aware of that.
    2. I was replying to the Op, not you.

I was put in the ESA support group without an assessment. I was told I would no longer need to submit sick notes. Six months later out of the blue a sick note was requested. My doctor supplied this and it was sent off. I have never had one requested again.

I was put on to ESA support group without an ESA assessment (though I did have a PIP assessment shortly before that, so maybe they used the same details). I've still been having to send in sick notes though?

That doesn't sound right. Phone on Monday and check. Once you've been put in a group, you don't need to send in sick notes. Once you're in a group, DWP are happy (for want of a better word!) that you're unfit for work.

My friend claimed ESA and his doctor put on it that his condition was ongoing in the end date section which means you do not require to keep attending your doctor every 2 weeks to get a sick note its so annoying when the majority of illnesses last over 6 months to 2 years.
