I'm in Northern Ireland. I thought because they are issued by RBS that Ulster bank would easily have them.

What the bank guy said about them being unuseable just got me thinking. I can't imagine a shop accepting a large note like that but I thought any bank would still see them as legal currency and exchange them later for smaller notes.

I hadn't thought about forgery. I assume if the bank gives the notes out, they are definitely genuine? Though, I'd certainly be nervous about accepting one if it was from a random person paying for something in cash. Especially because I've never actually seen one :)

Ulster Bank issue their own banknotes and don't use RBS ones; they are separate bank much like NatWest.

I've used £100 notes before without issue but not for low value purchases expecting large amounts of change.

I bet most people rarely see £50 notes (it's probably been getting on for five years since I last saw one), so I doubt there would be much call for £100 notes.

Why do we need a £100 pound note?

At one place I worked, the cashier had to have a manger or team leader check £50 notes and approve it.

When I have tried to spend them myself, I get eyed up like I have printed them myself at home.

Personally I would not accept at all a £100 note if the existed in England.

you could nip across on Belfast/Larne - Cairnryan ferry, only 5/6 miles to Stranraer, free bus, Stena sometimes to £10 day trips.

You'll get Clydesdale, RBS and BoS in Stranraer.

Regularly seen Euro 100 note being used on the continent.

As regards the E500....In the UK I believe no FX exchange/bank will issue/accept the Euro 500 note due to its use in fraud.

If you want these NI or Scots £100 notes to carry compactly and change on your travels overseas, you would find them hard to exchange and worth less than English notes. Take English fifties instead.

Good advice - I use my N&P Visa Debit card myself though.

No Ulster Bank that's in Ulster will give them. They highest they will give are Bank of England £50's. I've checked a few branches recently and their head office. All say no.

It's funny that an official bank can't get them but I could with a £10 trip to Stranraer :rotfl:
