When my sister and I were that age, our parents took us every year to a place called Sandy Acres in Cornwall. We used to love it - they had swing-slides, a ball pit and close to the seaside. Of course, that was a few years ago!

In Poundland at the moment (although stock varies, of course!), they have some solar lights that you can stick in the ground. They're not very big (so good for packing), but come with rechargeable battery for £1 each! They're very effective and come on automatically at dusk - I was very impressed with the one I picked up at the weekend.

I also have a ReadyBed from Argos - I opted for the children's one because it was cheaper and only slightly shorter! It's very good - definitely recommend for comfort, and it's pretty warm even though my shoulders stick out :-) I'd definitely pop the girls into some thermal jammies though.

At that age, aren't the girls happy enough sitting on a blanket on the floor?

  • Take duvets rather than sleeping bags, they're warmer!

Have a torch as well as a light for going to the toilet block at night.

Invest in a "wee bucket" for the kids in the night!!!

    Don't forget a bottle opener/corkscrew and a sharp knife

Baby wipes and cleaning wipes are easier that a bucket of water when you just want a quick clean around

Will we need to worry about the cold at night next week in the New Forest? I was going to take sleeping bags for me and my son but now I'm thinking of the double duvet for both of us to keep warmer.

I've never camped in my life and I'm trying not to fret as I like the comfort of a decent hotel!!!

I went camping last year for the first time since childhood, in Barcelona, in May and was freezing. I had to go out and buy a duvet! Maybe sleeping bags and a duvet over the top?

I like my comforts too, and refuse to travel without a hairdryer but camping is such fun. You will meet more people than in an hotel and the children will love it. Just try and be as organised as possible. Put everything into your car in the order you will take it out, e.g tent in car last and out first. Have a cool box full of food, and something easy for the first night as the last thing you will feel like doing is cooking. Make the inside of the tent a shoe free zone so you can keep the sleeping areas clean. Have some sort of ground sheet for outside too. Finally take lots of wine to keep you going!

I'm sure you will love it!!!

I am thinking of buying a larger tent and was looking at Ebay and came acorss Keyno Tents. They look rather nice and have a rrp of £179 - obviously on Ebay they are not going for that - but.....I cannot find any information anywhere else about this make - all search engines point you back to Ebay. Do any Money Saving Expert members know anything about this make of tent?

    cheers

I reccomend Scotts farm in West Wittering as a good camp site - not the cheapest but very clean toilets/shower blocks and minutes away from the beach ....

Just be careful with the tents on ebay...i know someone who bought a rage hamer and it was very poor......if you look around you can get a good make for less that 200 quid.
