Managed to (roughly) measure the room and it's just over 6.5ft wide by around 5ft 3" deep.

I've sketched the layout, please don't laugh, art was not my forte! https://instagram.com/p/1gSW4SKEO6/

The main issues are the towel rail taking up half the wall and a big gap between sink and toilet that's not big enough to put anything in. I don't think there is an alternative layout unless we lost the bath...?

Have to say, it doesn't look pokey! You have the space on the right where the t.rail is which is half the length of that wall. not sure if it's heated, but I would remove it and put up a hook on the wall/door.

I would consider relocating the door there as that's most the most effecient (opening the other way, on to the t.rail wall), and nothing else would work in front of the toilet anyway, then either rotate the bath to include existing door space and add a shower/storage in vacated bath space or put storage in existing door space - should look feel pretty spacious. You can also add storage inside bath panel for a sleek feel.

Given that there are re-jig possibilities and the ones to come from other posters, I would leave the bedroom as it is. Kids come with a lot of accessories, toys and you will soon need storage to manage it all.

Why is what we want important? We're not living there! If you not sure why you're doing it, doing nothing might be the sensible option.

  • My bathroom is almost exactly the same as yours except mine is about 6 ft 1 by 5 ft 8 and we don't have a big gap between next to the sink. Our bathroom IS pretty small but tbh it does everything it needs to. We could extend the bathroom into the bedroom next to it as well but personally I wouldn't. Seems like a lot of work for little gain.

Our wet room is about the size, before it had a fitted toilet and sink which also gave storage space, the bath was a square P shape so if you had a shower you had more room, but you could still keep the bath. The door was slightly more to the right to allow the bath shape, but moving doors is fairly easy and cheap.

I would value bedroom space over a bathroom, I certainly wouldn't want any single bedrooms either so I would look at no less than double bed, wardrobe, set of drawers/dressing table and being able to comfortably walk around them

The measurements don't look too bad to me. Definitely consider something like owain money saver has posted ... It's exactly what I had in mind when I suggested earlier! You could even get one a bit wider to fill the whole wall between bath and opposite wall, that'd give lots if storage and seem a bit more spacious with the clean straight lines. Keep the towel rail where it is. Perhaps one of those holders for rolled up towels above it. Most of your bottles etc would fit in the built in cupboard units :)

Not worth losing bedroom space for, unless you are a large family who all go in the bathroom together I'd say!

I also used to have a shaped bath with shower over it at my old house, it was fab. It was a keyhole shape so round at the shower/tap end and standard shape the other end. Straight side then so it doesn't stick out into the room.

If you want storage, you probably don't want it in a wet atmosphere.

Says she, all too clearly recalling trying to get a brick of nappies from the overhead cupboard, & it not going terribly well.
  • I'd suggest removing the wardrobes as you are looking for bigger space. But do you still have any other storage spaces where you can keep your stuff ? If not then removing the wardrobes is not a good idea.

I think it depends a lot on what you intend to do with the extra space in the bathroom. If you feel it'll allow you to put in something you really want/need, like a tub in the space of a shower cubicle or an additional sink for spouse or kids, I'd keep the space in the bedroom.

Speaking as someone who always has 'sense of space' at the top of their list for property, superfluous space in a bathroom is pretty pointless IMO. My house has a bathroom about 9x9, and even though I loved the idea when I bought the place, I find it's completely unappreciated, and have in practice been just as satisfied with bathrooms half the size or less in the past. I find the bathroom is the one room in the house where people only ever go to do very specific things, and once they've done those things they leave immediately. Even if you're soaking in the tub, you've probably either got your eyes closed or are staring at the ceiling, right? Whereas in a second bedroom, you might really appreciate the extra space, for storage or just for space, depending on what the room ends up getting used as in the future.

tl;dr: One vote for bigger bedroom, smaller bathroom here! :)

    Completely agree.
