Yep, need new boiler. Bah!!
That's a big hole in the Emergency Fund, but I suppose on the bright side, I can be thankful that we do have an emergency fund these days. It would have been straight on credit in the old days B.C.S (Before common sense). Just done BACS transfer, so hopefully money will be in our account for Friday when it's boiler-fitting day.
Can't help feeling peed off though, so am going back down greenhouse to play with some more plants.
Cheers all,
f x
Oh, !!!!!!, what a blow but like you say, thank heavens you have an emergency fund!
Lilian, just had a thought, do you buy your tickets on a monthly basis? A tip I picked up from an old workmate was to take my annual leave whenever a ticket ran out then buy one when going back to work thus saving however many weeks leave you get.
I took it a step further and worked out which were months with 5 working weeks in and which were 4 week months to get the most from my ticket which goes from same day into the month to same day into the month if you see what I mean, eg buying a ticket mid way through february is a bad idea as it has only 28 days. If my ticket ran out on, say, 26th Feb I would take a couple of days holiday so I didn't need to buy one until the beginning of March. I'm sad like that :rotfl:
I currently have a season ticket loan but because they faffed around with my forms it ends 2 weeks after I finish working there so I have to make sure I'm booked for the 2 weeks immediately after when I suspect I will probably be feeling like a nice rest :rotfl:Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.100 -
Done everything on my list except for the watering. The water has been off all day, and only just come back on  I rang the water company because normally they let us know if this is going to happen, but apparently it wasn't them - one of the houses in our terrace has recently been sold, and the new owner had turned off the shared supply (for the whole terrace) to do some work, and had not let anyone know. Apparently he was quite short with one lady who went to enquire when she might be able to bath her baby, flush her loo and cook a meal. Talk about how to get off on a good footing with your new neighbours  Anyway, it is back on now, so I will get on with it in a minute. Hopefully he will get a stop tap fitted inside his house before he decides to do any more plumbing
Doggy is back from the vets - it isn't anything that can be dealt with using salty water or something that can be bought over the counter, unfortunately. It is a recurring problem which involves ulceration of her corneasShe had it last year, and it cleared up after a while (and a lot of antibiotics etc) but unfortunately has now come back, in the other eye. The problem is compounded by old age. She doesn't see well anyway, since the last episode. Hopefully it will clear up soon without further loss of sight. Anyway, the vet said to carry on with the eyedrops (which she hates
) and to take her back in a fortnight, unless the condition worsens, in which case take her back immediately.
Sorry to hear about your boiler foxglovesIf it is any consolation, the new one will likely be more efficient, and hopefully the savings on power used will go some way to compensating for the big outlay

Hi Everyone!
Dawn - What a tool your neighbour sounds, how dare he just make that sort of decision, on a day like today as well! Its been baking in London. Sorry to hear about your poorly dog, you sound like you are doing your best for her though.
Determined - Im sorry also to hear about your trip to A & E with the candidate, poor man, at least he had your support today even if he doesnt sound like he's had much other than that.
Foxgloves- Yuck to your boiler dramas, thats really rubbish. Am sorry you have to pay out big time, but glad you can at least do so without breaking your amazing debt free streak.
Well, its been a long hot day. But not a bad one. Trade was decent for such a hot day, which surprised me. Need £47 now to pay the whole rent by end of tommorow, & £77 to pay the rates, if I get a decent day should achieve that.
I also got a lot of baking done this morning, so trade was quite accomodating in when it came in
My bank still cant tell me why they bounced a £10 cheque yesterday & from looking at the account there is no visible issue. I rang up just now, & was told they will be in touch when they know!
I have decided to take my ombudsman complaint to the next level after all. I got in tonight, to a letter from another new name, not even the one who emailed yesterday saying he was taking my case over, saying she needed more information as she has nothing on why I am complaining. I wrote back to the guy who is now my supposed contact and said, yep Im going to be needing that senior managers name about now, you are out of chances matie. Makes me so mad I am having to micro manage the situation but no other choice.
Had a quick ante natal check today, all was fine. Listened to the babies heart which is always reassuring.
Son is mad for earning pocket money, but very willing to do jobs so we've let him take over the flower watering this week now its so hot. And he helped my husband pack down at the shop today as well, so sweeping, cleaning tables etc. I saw another poster on another thread bemoaning the fact her teen thinks money grows on trees, which has further inspired me to keep going with our financial education now.
Although son was singing randomly, 'have I got PPI' which is a jingle from a tv ad hes obviously heard once to often...oh dear...
Right all, signing off as I need a nice soak before eastenders

Work has been incredibly quiet today. However still managed to get £2 tips for the pot! Also a customer brought me in some cake, so a nice little treat for after tea.
Nipped into garage on way home to see if any yellow stickers. Bag of carrots 13p, cabbage 25p, bag of 50p, hunters chicken 1.75, so not a bad haul. That's my fresh veg for 2 nights :-D will make some banana cake with the bananas I think as not long length in them but everything else looks super fresh.
Time for a cuppa tea then make some yummy food, then get stuck into a few jobs before relaxing time.
Foxgloves even though it not good that your boiler needs replacing, it must feel good not having to worry where the money will come from.
Bob I feel financial education for children is very important. This is somthing I worry about with my own children, as me and their dad have very different ways when it comes to money. He will dig in hand into his pocket for anyone for anything. However, he earns 4 times more than me (at least) but he doesn't have anything at all to show for it, he is still living at his mums. He spends willy jilly but I'm trying to show my girls how to have respect for money.
Baileys babe cheers :-D just broke it up a bit, trying to be more organised and continue develops good habitsDebt Remaing £315 :jBreath out the past, Breath in the futureBig Dreams Start Small0 -
Jo Jo - in the book I am reading at the moment The complete cheapskate Gazette which is brilliant by the way, the author talks about how she had her 6 kids doing chores for cash from very young. She said that by paying them 25 cents per job (this was 1990) they very quickly learnt that their money could buy trainers etc if they saved or bags of crisps if they didn't. By and large the kids refrained from buying the crisps as they saw the longterm value in nice clothes vs a quick thrill on crisps.
I range jobs from 20p up to £1 and we discuss the effort before hand, harder jobs get more money. I don't see any point in sheltering him from the reality of life which is unless you are minted you have to work for what you have." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Quick update then a few minutes read of my book before lights out.
Thankfully the days are getting longer, I only just managed to close the curtains before it was dark, tomorrow I'll try and do them before our trip to the theatre.
As we were leaving the cinema ds wombled a £1, lucky chap. Normally I only find coppers and the occasional 5p so I thought I was doing very well with 20p they other day, evidently I need to practice more and then I might start hitting the big leaguesFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Foxgloves - sorry to hear about the boiler
Bob - thank you for your kind pm, I'm ok trying to stay positive and get through this rough patch (depression is the pits ::o). Well done on the business, sounds like you are doing great and I totally agree with teaching our children about finances and its never too young to start teaching about the realities of earning and spending - my son (11) has more sense with money and finance than his older cousins
