When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and canceling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

morning guys  hope everyone is well! Looks like it's going to be a lovely day today :j

La E  welcome back lovely! And kudos for your yoga business going so well :T DGD is soooooo lovely La E, I love her so much and we are so lucky she is such an easy going child. After everything she went through and our unusual family circumstances there seems to be no ill effects as yet so we feel blessed.

Had a really sad situation yesterday. Interviewed someone for my project (we are a homeless charity) who is clearly unwell mentally but is not being picked up by the MH services. Took him to A&E last night so didn't get home until 8ish....

Just read through yesterday's thread and good to see it so busy & productive! Hugs to all of you having difficulties.

Small things for today:

* get oh to sign remortgage paperwork & scan back to broker - deal has been agreed in principal just have to hope the valuation puts the house at £187k
* post ebay sale
* flylady bedrooms tonight (didn't do last night as got in so late)
* do some weeding after work
* b/l at work d from stores
* go in the loft tonight and see if the suitcase I borrowed from someone at work is there :o
* NSD (apart from postage)
* load of washing - need to keep on top of this as finally do not have an overflowing basket! :j
* make dgd's pack lunch
* birthday card from stash for CM
* chicken in the sc (didn't do this yesterday!)

Last's my lot! Have a great day :A

Morning DNMS, and all who come along later :)
    Right, list needed for today:

Peg washing out on the line to dry
Housework - I look after baby GD on Wednesdays, so need to tidy up beforehand (certainly won't have time tomorrow lol)
Go to sales unit to tidy up / see if more stock needed - walk for free exercise and to save fuel
Buy some fruit from the market while I am out.
Also buy some labels for business, and make sure I note it down in my book and put the receipt away safely
    Put bread machine on
    Make a cake
All meals from food I already have
Order birthday presents for SiL and DiL
Dog to vets later, to get her poorly eye checked
Water any plants that need it
Reading this evening for free entertainment

Hmmm... I am sure there is more. I will pop back later to update. Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Debt-free and Proud!
    Good morning everyone :)

DNMS - what a sad situation at work :( it must be so difficult to see people in so much need of support - well done you for taking the time to do the right thing.

DawnW - hope your doggy is ok! My cat gets a gammy eye periodically - vet thinks he is allergic to something but we can't seem to figure out what :(

ziggy & twiggy - good luck to you both getting those lists ticked off!

    My list:

Sort books for ebay/freecycle/charity - STILL haven't done this it's become a bit of a dysfunctional hotspot haha!

    Keep posting stuff onto ebay

Check banks - managed to re-jig the budget and got some great value in my Aldi shop last night so hopefully this will be easy to reconcile.

Yoga - managed 15 minutes (LOL) of interval training yesterday it was HARD WORK. Yoga should be a little more relaxing tonight haha.

Packed lunch to work - done.

Wash winter coat & put away for next year (hope this isn't too pre-emptive!)

OH is cooking tea so don't need to worry about that.

No planned spends so unless something goes wrong I will be having a NSD

Phone is on the blink so need to put something in the budget for the next couple of months to cover that.

Was grim here this morning but weather looks to have really cheered up :)

    Morning Campers!
Nice bright morning for getting some jobs done. Ziggy - did not have rude awakening by cat today, but probably only because he wasn't allowed in the bedroom first thing!
    So far today, I have:
*Saved some energy costs by doing laundry & running slow cooker overnight on cheap tariff, hanging laundry outside to line-dry, re-using soapy bathwater to wash cat's blanket instead of using washing machine, leaving my hair to dry naturally after washing.
*Divided up freshly made chicken stock for freezing.
*Fetched overwintered chilli plants downstairs to prune, water & move to greenhouse. Amazingly, they all managed to produce 1 small chilli each over the winter!
*Finished the last of my cleanse & polish after cutting tube open a while back. Couldn't believe how much product was still left in there.
*Bathroom hand soap ran out. Have replaced with a bar of lovely organic Fairtrade soap I received for Christmas. I mean......why am I even putting hand soap on the shopping list regularly when I have a whole box of these nice bars? Ridiculous! And a bit less plastic waste too.
    Still to do:
*Make dinner from today's rubber chicken allocation (chinese-style fried rice).
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Pot up 100s more baby plants in greenhouse.
    *Water veggies.
*Cross fingers re boiler. Gas engineer this afternoon. Naturally now we've booked him, the water reached a decent temperature first thing, but then the pilot light went out again, had to be re-lit & we were back to business as usual with lukewarm water, at best. Sometimes all the gas jets fire up as normal, but water is completely cold. Hope he can diagnose the fault, anyway.
Ok, must get my muddy boots on, take radio & coffee & head for the greenhouse.
    Have a good day, everyone.

Re pets and dodgy eyes - my mums dog sometimes gets a gammy eye and mum just uses over the counter eye drops from the chemist which always clears it up, rather than going to the vets.

    Morning all

I've gone and bloody done it again. I should not be allowed to have a credit card. I always use a 0% on purchases one to buy my train pass and tell myself that will be all - and in 4 months I have managed to rack up three times the amount the train pass costs :(

So currently looking at almost £3,000 to pay off. BAH. It's interest free so not the end of the world but definitely will be hard to pay off by the time I need to get my next train pass in December. So I need to batten down the hatches again.

Problem is, I think I've already battened down as much as I can without giving up my savings accounts, which I don't want to do as they are for things like birthdays, Christmas (already saving Shop and Scan Amazon vouchers for that as well), holidays (DS starts school this September so holidays are about to go through the roof), car maintenance, house maintenance, emergency fund etc.

I'm finding that the pay per click sites (Swagbucks, Inbox Pounds etc) don't pay as much as they used to, and with Nectar Adpoints out of the window as well there just doesn't seem to be as much online earning potential as there used to be. Does anyone else find the same thing, or am I not looking in the right places?

Anyway. I'm very much back on board the good ship debt free if you'll have me.

    My small things today:

    • Bump some bits on my local Facebook selling site
    • Chase up collection of some of DSs old clothes
    • Look at spreadsheet for next month and see if I can tweak it at all
    • Buy a cheap card from Card Factory for a friend's new home - haven't got anything suitable in the card making stash unfortunately.
    • Look into National Trust membership for cheaper days out over the summer - and research days out at alternative locations that don't require a membership fee
    • Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks from stores
    • FreePostcodeLottery etc
    • Enter codes from McDonalds Millions wombled stickers - still nothing :(
    • Pick up DS early and take him to surprise CBeebies show - managed to get tickets for £1 through work.

I think that's everything. Have happy DFW days everyone xx

    :cool:Morning campers :)

To continue Foxgloves inconsiderate cat theme... One of mine brought in a mouse at 6am this morning, lost it under our bed and proceeded to wake us up batting it around the boxes an loft ladders we keep under there. Normally I would try to save it but we had no chance of finding it under there and after about 5 minutes all went quiet :(

The surveyor has been and said everything should all be straightforward and there are no problems with the house. My estate agent has said I can come in to see him later and he will do a bit of research for me and speak to their office in the next town re what sort of price the house we have found privately is currently worth. They are certainly having to work for their money with me :rotfl: We still haven't seen it yet as they are still cleaning/tidying etc to show it in its best light which I can understand. I know what it's worth to us to be where we want to be but I need to consider what it might be worth to anyone else if we were to want to sell it and I think that may be less. It backs onto the railway which doesn't bother us at all but I realise it does make it less saleable. I've spoken to the EA, he's on the case

I also need to arrange to go into the solicitors with my passport etc. I'm still not giving her the go ahead to do anything on the sale until we have the purchase sorted as I don't want to start running up fees (for us or the buyer) until I know it's definitely going ahead. Given the choice I wouldn't have even let them spend money on a survey yet but the estate agents pushed for that and only toldme a couple of days ago. I can't even fill in the forms saying what we're taking/leaving yet as I don't know if I need to take my cooker as we don't know where we are going. I have a fantastic plate rack that I brought with me the last time we moved and I would move it again if there was room for it but again we don't know.Have dropped her an email asking when would be a good time to call in, awaiting a reply.

My plan for today is to have a good sort out of everything and either put it in a pile to ebay or load into my car for a boot sale. The trouble is, I'm not actually the hoarder, that would be my good husband who stil owns every leather jacket he's ever had (and they're all pretty much identical.) It's kitchen stuff I'm loathe to get rid of, I spent 8 years on an interiors magazine and developed expensive tastes in kitchen equipment plus I have an unhealthy obsession with China and pretty paper cups/plates etc. :oI've opened and closed some kitchen cupboard doors but not decided to part with anything yet:rotfl: In my defence it's my favourite room to clean and tidy so everything is sorted on a regular basis. I need to choose a different room.

I have some potatoes that are beginning to sprout to I should peel them and defrost some chicken from the freezer for a roast dinner later actually using some kitchen equipment that isn't a microwave :rotfl:Done. Once part boiled there are enough to freeze for next time too

    Have a great day all!

Ps Apologies for missing letters/random odd words, this thing has a mind of its own!

Hey Lilian, I can sympathise with the train tickets, a good part of my credit card debt has been down to train tickets for work. At least yours runs out in De ember so you can buy next years at this years prices, are you eligible for a season ticket loan?

Can I ask you how the facebook selling pages work, please? I'm not on facebook myself but DH is but when I mentioned Facebook selling pages he had no idea what I was talking about. How would he find them?
