If like me you have an existing NS&I Savings Certificate which doesn't show up on line, don't panic. This may be because in their infinite wisdom NS&I decided not to make investments pre 20 September 2012 visible online.

Do not make the mistake of withdrawing the balance to close account online. The system accepts your instruction, minus the penalty for early withdrawal + minus £100 minimum deposit. You cannot close the account online, you can only do this by phone / letter.
