Letter out of the blue from Wescot

Mackle - if you wish to dance with these oicks, that's your choice.
I happened on this Thread and blenched when I read of you wasting postage+fee on RD for your letter, let alone its possible rejection.
On the Parking ticket forum, we ALWAYS advise comms are sent from a PO and a free Cert. of Posting obtained and retained. This holds good for you too.
Legally, a 1st class stamped letter is deemed delivered within 48 hours.
Sending 2 copies, 1 each from different POs, still obtaining those vital free CoPs - prevents any pest scumpany excuses.
I am unsurprised that the receipient squiggle is illegible.
You were lucky it was taken in at all.
With RD, you run the risk that your letter can be refused. This is standard for many lowlife debt crawlers, mimicry solicitors, parking scavengers and the like.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

I am finally getting somewhere.
I've received a letter back from Idem that says that they bought a debt that was defaulted earlier this year. This default is now showing up on my credit rating, and has pushed my rating from a high good to a low fair.
I've gone through my credit history, and the account was closed last summer, as there was nothing owing on it.
Very very confused. I've not received any correspondence from the original Store card company, but I have received copies of letters sent by Idem that they had sent to an address that I haven't lived at since 2003.
Hi Mackle
When you say 'I've gone through my credit history, and the account was closed last summer, as there was nothing owing on it.' are you just telling us what is on the credit report? Or do you remember paying it to zero last summer?
I'm wondering why Idem would have been writing to an address you left in 2003. Is that actually about the last time you made a payment to it and it might have still had something owing on it.
I agree with a subject access request but I think I would send it to the original lender0 -
You should complain to FOS/FCA that wescot wrote to you implying you owed money when in fact they didn't have any proof of that. What will your verse be?

I contacted Newday last summer regarding my account, after seeing it on my credit report as having an a balance of 0. Newday confirmed over the phone that the balance was zero and nothing was owing on the account and so agreed to close it. It has since shown up on my credit history as being settled.
Payment to the Newday account was always made by direct debit, and I have not failed to make the payments when there was an outstanding balance on the account0 -
The Ombudsman has ruled in favour of Idem as:-
I must clarify that the legislation which governs this organisation (Financial Services and Markets Act 2000) directs that disputes which are brought to us should be resolved by reference to what is, in the opinion of the ombudsman, fair and reasonable in all circumstances of the case (s228). Therefore, we issue our views taking into consideration the actions of both parties. You’ve said that Idem has failed to provide the required information as outlined in the Consumer Credit Sourcebook. Having looked at the evidence provided, I’m unable to agree that you haven’t been provided sufficient information to evidence that the debt is valid.
I cannot understand how an old contract meets the requires of 7.5.3 and 7.14.4 as a contract itself does not show payment/account information?0 -

You should probebly do a SAR request to the original creditor, or, if you can obtain a statement of account from them showing it was settled with a nil balance, and sent it to the money chasers, that should solve the problem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards.
